I just got my CDL in California,
I have no ties to this state. I want to get out. Not many companies seem eager to hire out of here.
Can I call a company that doesn't hire from my area and tell them I have no problem relocating and they need not worry about getting me hometime? Go to their orientation, live out of the truck and/or hotel rooms until such time as I can rent a local room or whatnot?
Or will that not matter to them because my CDL is from California, and that is the sticking point.
If so, how can I change a CDL to another state? Will a private mailbox work?
Anybody ever done anything like this before? Have any tips?
Thanks

You will have to move from California, relocate to the new state and then change the CDL over within 30 days with proof of new residency etc in the new state. The key being you only hold one CDL and that is the address of your residence.

UPS mailbox, bank statement, insurance card is all you need to change residency. You can move to any state you want for tax benefits, etc.
Note, it can't be a USPS mail box, but a ups mailbox works.Maverick Griff, mistermoose and Mighty Bananas Thank this. -

Companies use the address on your cdl as your legal domicile to determine if you're in the hiring area.
If you have a little cash on hand, rent a cheap room in Reno or Las Vegas and with an affidavit from the landlord, you can use that address as your residency and for your Nevada cdl. No personal income taxes in Nevada.

Some drivers use Escapees RV Club, which can help you get a legal residence in another state.
A few drivers that post on here used that to get a Texas address. No personal income taxes in Texas.

In Nevada you can sleep on your friends couch, but you friend must provide an "affidavit" that you live there.

This is from the website above:
"Notarized statement from the owner of a residence indicating that the applicant physically resides at the residence." -
####, this is trickier than I thought.
I guess I'm going to have to go with a company that hires me out of Cali, and then attempt to move to a new location when I'm on the road. -
Take your "home time" or "time off" in the state and town you plan to use as a new residency and get started from there by looking for a room to rent and make a visit to the local DMV to get more information.
Most trucking companies don't really care where you take your "time off" or "home time."Maverick Griff, Bean Jr. and Mighty Bananas Thank this.
