Not that I would do it, but I don’t fault people for standing up for their rights. The question is, is the driver obligated by law to help the officer, and can the officer legally get another officer on scene to operate your truck?

These people posting these videos claim that you have no legal obligation to help the officer, and a officer can’t legally operate your truck to perform a inspection. I just wonder, out of curiosity, if their little stunt would hold up in court?

I guess this actually should have been posted in the legal section. Mods, feel free to move it if needed.

Not only is it bad for the driver, troopers are like everyone else, they talk to each other, you could be making it bad for other drivers in your company, why make waves.I could see if the cop was being a dick, but for no reason, no good can come from that.

HA! I love it!! If this cop had hair, he'd be scratching it. I bet they never told him about drivers like this at the academy, good for him. I never had the grapes to do that, I did what the officer told me, and was on my way lickety-split. This guys just digging a hole deeper, an agitator, I've known drivers like that, and they can never figure out why they are always in trouble. Best line, "you can inspect my truck, I'm just not going to help you",,,that's great! This the best post in years, I wonder what did happen? Can the supervisor go into his truck and perform the duties?

LEO doesn't ask him to help. LEO gave him an order to operate vehicle controls to perform said controls functioning inspection.

Lets leave it here for now. It'll get more views and comments.
I'm curious about this myself. I can't see where any good would come from giving the inspector a bad time.

I'm pretty sure if I pulled that with the company I'm contracted to my contract would be terminated asap.

I got a written warning for blocking the highway by an AZ dps, for stopping on the side street next to the TA in Wilcox.

He pulled his cruiser to like 1 inch of my DOT bumper where I couldn't even see him in the mirrors.

"WHY ARE YOU BLOCKING MY HIGHWAY? WHY ARE YOU BLOCKING MY F HIGHWAY? "

That was after he approached the truck with his flashlight in my mirror.

Really took me back. I said "Man I'm not looking for a hassle. "

It just came out. Then he went nuts. "YOUR GETTING AN INSPECTION. YOUR GETTING AN INSPECTION. "

When he asked, "What on earth possessed you to by a truck this color...."
I was going wow. Wind up in jail pretty easy here Dave.

Got another for lane control for dodging craters in New Mexico.

I said "Sir, these are some monster holes here, I don't wanna lose a steer tire."

Dude in a full dress uniform. "That's completely unsafe. "

So why was I only given a warning then?

I've basically lost all respect for these guys.

They're justifying there existence off my work.

No e log violations, now they're nothing better to do.

You would be surprised how many traffic divisions have officers with a CDL. His job is to inspect commercial vehicles. If you don't want to assist then he can, and probably will, get another officer or inspector over there to assist him. All the while you could realistically spend some time in the back seat of his patrol car if it is on the side of the road, or sitting in a chair in the inspection bay while the second officer sits in your truck and does what is necessary to complete the inspection. And anything he sees in plain sight is fair game. Keep your cool and unless your driving a piece of junk, your going to get a clear inspection and if your a company driver you will probably get a free dinner from your company out of it. I always do.

Probably almost 20 yrs ago, I peeled a cap off a trailer tire(casing still held air). Got off the highway and was going a couple miles to a tire shop for a tire. Trooper pulls me over, and asks me if I know why he stopped me. I said, "if it's that tire, I'm going up the road to have it repaired". Big mistake! He hadn't seen the tire but he thought "I looked heavy". I assured him I wasn't and showed him my BOL. He says he's gonna weigh me and if I'm not over, he's gonna escort me to the tire shop, but we'll stop at Dunkin Donuts on the way and he'll buy me a coffee. If I'm over, he'll still escort me but I gotta buy his coffee. Well while we were setting up his scales, I counted the pieces on my load and realize there's more than what the paperwork says...When I told him, he says, "do I look surprised?". I ended up buying him a cup of coffee as he escorted me to the tire shop. Super nice guy, he could've just put me out of service on the spot...
Company paid the fine, but I paid for the coffee...

That was nothing but a poor intellectual YouTube show off. Laughable and ludicrous. Driving CMV means forfeiting some rights and I want them to do level I to suspicious guys like him. I am this week on vacation driving my car with family and I want to feel save.
