Will DOT perform a level 1 if requested?

If your company is requiring quarterly inspections they are required to pay for it. If they only require one annual inspection they can make you pay for that UNLESS they require it to be done at a particular location.

Same basic thing for medicals, if you are not able to go to a Dr of your choosing, then they have to pay for the exam.

Pay more attention. It happens a lot. A friend of mine has a shop in Mt. Shasta and he spends a lot of time at the Dunsmuir scales.
As old as your truck is you might have a few little things wrong that you don't know about.
Do you spend a lot of time underneath your truck? Do you take a dental mirror and a flashlite peering into little out of the way crevices like @Scooter Jones mentioned? CHP does...and believe me they know where to look.

I'm only quoting your post because, (holy crap!), I thought grammar was a lost art form. Thanks for making a concise and coherent comment.

Good to know @Scooter Jones . First time I ever heard of this issue. Glad I replaced all 4 springs last year. But will definitely be looking at those springs more carefully.

Actually he’s worried about $195 extra because $65 is mandatory

Ever hear about the quotas that don’t exist in some states .. I’d hate to find out one did and I got nicked on a bogus defect

That is meaningless. I've had a brand new sticker on the truck, the next day I had an inspection. The cop said that is meaningless to many cops who have a quota of inspections to fill.

Part of doing business with his carrier of choice. This is something that he should have put into the budget for or change to a carrier that doesn't require it.

I seen a lot of this before. Great times making the big bucks but when things slow down, it is nickel and dime time.

Every DOT officer I have spoken with says the sticker means a lot. When I load on military bases they do not have to do the inspection because a CVSA sticker less than six months old lets them skip it. My wife and I have both noticed that we get called in to scales a lot less often after we have passed a level one so there is also the time saved in being able to skip scales. There are advantages for us other than saving the $65 every three months. How often does LS make you get inspections?

Most DOT inspectors will honor the sticker but it is not required. I had three inspections in NY in one morning, each about 50 miles up the road from the previous one. They said they didn't care about the previous inspection, they will inspect me as many times as they want to.

I don't understand why you are paying for quarterly inspections, since the carrier is obligated to pay for them. They cannot force you to do that, only an annual inspection, and then only if you get it at a place of your choosing, not limited to company authorized locations. Seems like they are passing on a lot of costs to their O/O's.
