What are the benefits of a long wheelbase ?

Got some real truth to it . I spend more time in my truck than I do any where else y not have one I would like to be in

 

You will do just fine. Just keep everything in perspective, and it will become second nature. I wouldn't have anything but an 18 sp except maybe a 13.

 

I drove a 13 spd most of my career as owner op and company and always hated on what I called "faggomatics" i.e. automatics... until I drove a volvo automatic last few months...

let me say that my left knee thanks me especially in traffic and its just that much easier to drive period.
makes no sense to stay in the past just to say you're more manly. Was foolish of me as I could have had an automatic long ago but refused due to pride.

 

I like the convenience of a stick for arm rest.

 

Lots of difference in being competent and able to drive a manual, but choosing to drive an auto.


Instead of not willing or even caring to try because your lazy.

I realize fleets are mostly auto, however looks like a new hand would want the skill to add versatility to his resume.


I drove a Mack auto and didn't care for it. I know guys with bad knees however that an auto option kept them working, a good thing in my opinion.


I just ain't sure how my straights will sound with an auto. Petty yeah I know, but at this time I am not willing to give up my pooch pipes, my Alcoa wheels at a high mirror shine and the view over my ol long hood. It's what brought me into it, without it well it would take me out of it

 

I would love to drive ishift but c16 doesn't come along with this particular transmission

 

What I get: Stretched rigs, shiny rigs, lit up trailers, pride in one's ride.

What I don't get....and probably never will: Those stupid skirts that cover your drives, shifters that touch the ceiling (the trucking equivalent of ape hangers on a Harley), lowered trucks. All that stuff just makes life harder, which I don't get.

Yep, bring on the hate. I drive a Volvo automatic....and I DO know how to drive a manual but I'll get old in my truck and I only miss shifting one out of every 100 or so days. Mine's a 780 and it's enough of a stretch job for me.

I bought a shined up Great Dane dry van last year after reading a lot of threads on the best trailers out there on this forum. I was looking for a few things: clean, relatively new, polished nose and tail, Alcoas, plated dry van with E-track. Once I found that and bought it I didn't even realize it was lit up like a christmas tree until the night after I took delivery. Man do I love having all those lights. It really does keep you safer and looks great too.

 

Yesterday saw yellow stretcher pulling new conestoga with shiny tall 10" - 12" smokestacks and weedburner exhaust.

 

Absolutely useless. Does huge damage to already negative view general public has of the industry. Takes up space in already crowded truck parking and interstate highway. Wastes resources and hugely inefficient.
