I'm currently in CDL school and am getting emails, calls, and texts for varius companies. I'm in week 1 of 6 so I have a while left. What company is good for someone with a new CDL and 0 experience? I'm looking at Schnieder, KLLM, and Swift but would love an inside scoop from drivers that have been there and done that. I'm 22 and live in Washington. Not a whole lot of companies that are OTR operate out of this state. What would the training time be looking like for the companies? I know it will differ between each one but I don't want a week (you can't learn the ropes in a week) and I don't want like 3 or 4 months (over kill in my mind).

    Lynden Transport has local/regional/otr.
    www.lynden.com
Try this company then later if you want local or regional you can just change divisions without changing companies.

Celedon looks really great! The only bad thing is that I'd start off at .38 a mile. That's 4 cents lower than the big ones like KLLM, Decker, Swift ect. They also only pay $450 a week for the the first month. That's $250 less than schnieder. I'm still considering though. Thanks man for bringing them to light. I do like what they offer though. I'll talk with their recruiter and see what their 401k looks like. I want a company that can start it immediately and match what I put in.

Who did you end up going with? Why didn't you go with Schneider? They keep coming up as one of the best companies to drive for.

Go to Schneider for your first year.

Wherever you go, choose wisely, do not jump around. Employers like seeing a minimum amount of companies.

It's pretty much the same BS wherever you go when you are new, and for the first year, except some companies are REALLY bad.

Just go to Schneider. I've been in this game for awhile. It's where I'd go to get my year or two in. At a year you can go to a lot of companies, at 3 you can go anywhere.

DO NOT JUMP from company to company, that is the worst thing you can do to yourself.

    Good luck.

Don't pay much attention to cents-per-mile. What counts is the accessorial pays and long runs.
I was making $65K every year @ .36 cpm because of good accessorial pays. Only worked 11 months a year also because I like long vacations to the Orient. I was making more per year than most drivers that were being paid .40 cpm or more and you can to, if you choose a good company. @laaylor has been with Celadon for many years and can give you the straight scoop on the company and pays.

Lots of companies go into and haul out of Washington. There are also LOTS of companies that are LOCAL to your state.
What part of Washington are you in?
Is OTR an ABSOLUTE necessity for you. Lots of LTL cos. will hire with no experience and train to their standards.
