Yes indeed. Just enter the word 'rupskraan' (caterpillar crane) in Google, and see what you find.

"It will never be used as a crane" clearly is wrong, they are quite often used as cranes.

I suppose you call this an excavator as well?

If it doesnt lift with cables it is not a crane. It is really that freaking simple.

I've got an old wheel loader. When i remove the bucket and put forks on it does it transform and become a fork lift? When i put the blade on it does it become a bulldozer?

This is the Hydraulic Excavator Contents page from the Cat Performance Handbook, along with the available attachments for Hydraulic Excavators.

So, according to Caterpillar, a hydraulic excavator can be equipped with a number of attachments that have nothing to do with digging dirt.

You may argue all you want, and dredge up all the google photos you want, but I'll take Caterpillar's word for it. No where in this section is the word "crane" used.

You really aren’t that bright are you? Call your local Komatsu dealer and request some information on a pc2000 crane. See what they say. You’re about as pleasant as a hemorrhoid[/QUOTE]

Well its definitely not a crane. Looks like a Zaxis 850 or 870 upperstructure with a very long undercarriage configuration for extra stability. Its simply a modified excavator for demolition work.

The point I think you are missing is the base machine itself is and will always be an excavator. No modifications will change that. Yes they can be used to hoist objects with a lift hook attachment or an engineered lift eye on the bucket but that doesn't make it a crane.
