Our co. is sending me to Ca. to pick up some new trucks. 2 are class 8s and 3 have no sleepers and 1 of them is a single axle. :biggrin_2551:Going to be a heck ofa ride on that one.:biggrin_2552:
Question is, do I have to stop at the scales coming back from Pomona Ca. to Houston Tx.? we wil not have a trl. but will be runnin a logbook. Been awhile since I've bobtailed so don't remember the rule on that.

Not sure but I think you do have to there pappy. I got red lighted when I was bobtail on the east coast a few times and had to pull on the scales. I think they were looking for a level one type violation ya know something mechanical they could jerk my chain on. Lucky for me my truck was dirty not broken!

You won't have a trailer but you will have a load assuming you are bringing them all at once. Yes you must hit the scales.

Are you actually bobtailing or piggybacking a couple behind you. Been awhile since I've been OTR down that way but dont most of the scales have signs saying "Trucks over ??,??? must enter scales"? Or maybe they say "All trucks must enter scales". hmmmm

It is registered weight, not actual weight that is the determining factor. Yes, you must enter.

yes as is agreed by the rest, cross the scales. Especially for NM, make sure all your paperwork is in order, registration, proof of purchase, tax and insurance liability for the new trucks you are bringing back. New Mexico can be a real (whats the word for a female dog in heat?) lol

I know you have to cross if you're bobtail but don't you have to cross in any CMV with a DOT#? For example I drove a 24' box truck that a company leased from ryder and we had our magnets that went on the door with our DOT# on it and I had to cross, it was no different than a u-haul I've rented for moving(which I didn't cross with that) but this had a DOT# on it so I would cross/bypass which ever light I got.

Yes but wouldnt the registered weight of a bobtail be the actual weight of it since there is no trailer attached or assigned to it, i.e. brand new?
I know here in Oregon and Washington all bobtails never go in the coops.
Most of this is beyond me so any questions I ask or comments are nothing more than that. It's just that I dont know.
