Safe travels to all, I will be purchasing my own truck by the end of the summer, is it better to find a company to lease the power unit unto or get your own authority and dot# and wish for the best. Where do you find info on brokers and are there any good ones out there? I have 6 safe yrs experience no accidents just tired of the politics and working to put someone elses kid through harvard. If i’m gunna work 70+ hrs a week mine as well do it for myself. Any info would be much appreciated. Thanks in advanced

Don’t forget a trailer, if you go on your own.

I’m looking into renting trailer vs buying one at first, still would have to figure out cost and see if it would be worth it

Figure out what sector of trucking you are good at first. Dry van....everyone is good at. Reefer or flatbed is popular. Depends where you live as well. But ya. Be an expert in your field, have potential target customers. If you just do it blind and hope for the best... Well let's just say hope you've got it all paid for in cash...

Running your own numbers is going to cost upwards of $7,000 up front for all the down payments you have to make. Authority, Insurance, Plates, Authority documents, Trailer down payment, etc.. just some examples.

Find someone like Landstar, Lawrence Transportation, CFI, Mercer... Some of those that have drop/hook and you can build your bank account up for 2 years. Then if you wanna go out on your own you can say that you have the money for everything.

    6 years?

    Confirmed safe driving?

Are you willing to learn something new?

If there are yes answers for those three, go to landstar. Apply right now, get through the process and see if you can get into an owner's truck first to learn everything you can, then get your truck, pull their trailer for now and make money.

    Mr.Mongo Thanks this.

LS isn't a company you sit and wait for freight, the best way to make money there is to get out and met or talk to as many agents as possible, the tools are there for anyone to use, get a mentor to guide you through learning, and make a go at it.

I get rather upset ... ok pissed off when I hear how bad LS is and come to find out they treated it like they were a company driver. I have trucks with LS and I don't have one driver who has ever not made theirs annual goals.

    Mr.Mongo and Chinatown Thank this.
