Thank you tk. This is what I was looking for. I'm also old school, I always had my cb on when I was awake. I just hate being walked on when I'm trying to inform of a brake check. How much power can the trucks factory wiring and fuse handle?
Best cb/ setup

Didn't have any problem up to 150 watts (with the original fuse that came with it) on a W9 but the CB shop in Amarillo, TX advised me to switch the power connector to a heavier gauge one. That power plug-in that connects to the back of the CB (to the prongs) - there are after market ones that are thicker and able to handle more heat / power. Eventually, I just ran thicker gauge set of wires directly from the batteries to the CB. I was trying to cut some electronic noises but didn't help much on that aspect. I've tried those inline noise filters, newer/better quality CB cables, etc... but between the truck fridge, 2500wtt inverter (another 2 door fridge w/ freezer - that needed to run at all time), GPS, blue tooth on headset for phone, blue tooth for IPOD - I was never able to truly quiet it down. -

Is a Cobra 25 any Good? I had a Uniden, that had a cliche, and won the Cobra 25 in a TS giveaway at the FJ exit 109 Rt 95 in NE Md. Haven't hooked it up yet....just wondering.

If it’s new (never abused) it’s a nice little radio. Worked with a man several years had one. Never touched. Got him to upgrade antennas and have a pro dial them in (Pete 367). Sounded fine.
I’d keep it.
Hey, if it was free, it was meant to be.
Get over to Harbor Freight and pick up an APACHE 3800 foam-lined locking case for $30 on sale . Radios get beat when we remove them from truck. Survived 82,000-miles ITR, but not the 15-mile drive home (ALWAYS REMOVE MIC). .
The case makes for safe storage. (Or a bigger case like the 5800 to hold all the electronics safely: GPS, headset, chargers, phone holder, etc. It’s $$$ added up).
I picked up that case today on advice from another guy on the CB forum. I’ll keep my expensive back-up radio in it (Uniden Bearcat 885 Hybrid CB/Scanner), plus some spare parts, etc, dedicated to that radio.
Best upgrades to inexpensive radios are a better mic (ASTATIC 636 or ROADKING 56 or Ranger 198), and an external speaker (KENWOOD KES-5; mil spec).
Depending on your truck, antenna to 13’5” high good idea. Top load (Skipshooter brand). Better coax than factory (RG8X from Bob’s or Bells).
More TX power: RM ITALY KL203 amp (eBay: 75W for $75 shipped; will run off 15A truck circuit).
Noise in the Receive is partly from truck (unhook coax and listen only) and mainly thru antenna. So electrical bonding important (extra grounds).
Hit the other forum, detail what you drive, pics of mount location and antenna mount location, etc. And research threads to see if answers and good questions for your app already present.
