Using KeepTruckin ELD? Are your IFTA reports accurate? Ours are always wrong

So I just finished checking the mileage for two months on my Omnitracs IVG device. Most states do show accuracy within a 5-mile range, but there are also some serious discrepancies. For example,

    Nov 2018
    • All miles from TN were missing (my paper notes show it was 232 miles on Nov 3rd)
    • 5 states were under-reporting miles from 32 miles to as high as 235 miles.
    • One state gave a negative mileage of 176.
    • Two states were over-reporting miles of 279 and 494.
    • Interestingly, when I combine both under- and over-reported miles, I only get a discrepancy of about 25 miles for this month, which equates to an error of less than 1% for all miles. However, some states won’t be happy about being skipped or under-reported!
    Dec 2018
    • All miles from CO were missing (my paper notes show it was 159 miles on Dec 1st. I added both CO miles from Nov & Dec, but there are still “over” 159 miles missing)
    • 2 states were under-reporting miles of 38 and 88.
    • No states over-reported miles over 5.
    • When combining both under- and over-reported miles, there is a discrepancy of about 290 miles for this month, which equates to an error of less than 3% for all miles.
The GPS tracker shows some reliability, but it’s not yet accurate. Maybe in the next few years, this issue is resolved. For now, I will continue doing it the old-fashion way.

It proves that switching to ELDs was a waste of money. I am also paying KeepTruckin extra for the feature. Refund?!

Who knows. Maybe KeepTruckin’s ELD device does a better job than Omnitracs. Omnitracs only uses up to 3G. There is no 4G nor LTE. Or maybe the issue is something else. :dontknow:

Keep trucking was pretty accurate on my quarterly. I think as long as you put in miles when fueling and pre trip it stays true. Also make sure to claim any driving events.

The issue I’m having is the accuracy when it comes to miles reported in the states I drove in. The overall miles in a month had some accuracy, but the miles the GPS said I drove in each state was off in some states and in a couple of states it did not detect I drove through there.

I did have a few error messages on my device, and that may be why it was off. I don’t get as many error messages anymore. I called Omnitracs about why I didn’t get error messages on the older Qualcomm devices, and he said that the device was not capable of detecting as many errors as the IVG.

I use keep trucking on my phone and make #### sure it is connected at all times. When I first started using it I had some problems with it not being connected. That caused some unclaimed driving events. Now that I have been using it for awhile now I think it works pretty good. Operator error is what to look for. Lol
