Long time lurker first post. I’ve been a company crude hauler for 8 years in central Oklahoma. Been thinking about buying my own truck for several years now and finally found a truck that seems to good to be true. I have everything lined up to lease on with a company, just need the truck. Would like some opinions about the truck I’m looking st.
The truck is a 2007 Peterbilt 365 with a 36” sleeper. Has a Cat motor and 8ll. Already has a wet kit installed and also has the hydraulic hoses. The truck was a Frac truck for a company in Texas and has 43,000 miles but 7,300 hrs on it. Truck is solid and priced in the high 30s. Would like some opinions on this. No financing, paying cash.
Soon to be O/O, need advice.

Did you dyno and test the blowby?
How about having it checked by a good mechanic. -
Do you have a reputable mechanic to look at the integral parts of the motor. I can understand if you were spending under 10k on a fixer upper. When spending 30k I want to know what my money is buying. I wouldn't buy it if I can have a mechanic look at & run some diagnostics on it. All the best to you on your journey. On another note there are plenty of trucks around don't rush into it. Get the best truck you can you worked hard for it

I haven’t had that checked yet but was checking into it. Truck is in another state making it tough to do some of this. There was 14 of these and he’s down to 5 or 6.

Oh I agree, just found the trucks a few weeks ago and went and looked them over in person. Now I’m looking to find those services you mentioned. There are a ton of trucks out there but I haven’t found any with such low mileage and little use in this price range. If the dyno and oil samples look good I think this truck would work for a long tine for me. Most of the loads are under 20 miles in the same area I’m currently running for the company. If the dyno and samples are good do you think the price is about right or too high?

Well in your type of work your going out into the oil fields right? Driving down the washboard roads? If so that in my opinion limits what type of truck to get. Either A like your looking at now, From a company that built their trucks custom spec for this application. Or B. A $7000 farm or log truck that’s used to being beat up.
I don’t know if those guys spec those trucks with double frames or what. I once delivered out in the field, Pyote, TX, 9 miles in, 9 miles out: took me like 45 minutes. I couldn’t get myself to go much faster than 9 mph because the road was so BAD! -
Price seems ok, considering the wet kit and custom spec for this work. 07 cat, is that the twin turbo? 07 will have egr but not dpf and scr. So your on the better side of that. But high idle time in an emissions truck can lead to high internal soot build up which in turn begins to slowly make issues. If you did buy it I would consider putting an extra oil bypass filter on asap, like the Amsoil one, I forget the part number bmk30 or something. Something to help keep that soot down.
And of course detailed inspection and ECM report if possible. -
Roads where I’m at are really decent compared to Carl’s Bad and Peco’s area. We currently run 2016 Freightliner day cabs and they hold up pretty good accept for check engine light coming on a lot, not he roads fault. If it rains these trucks throw lights. Thanks for your thoughts also, I guess I just needed to bounce this off people other than family that don’t know crap lol. I’m still waiting on answer on twin turbo thing. When I went to look at it I didn’t even think to check until I was halfway home, my mechanic even told me to check the turbos and I didn’t. ♂️

frac trucks take a beating and then some price doesn't seem to bad but have someone look it over pretty good ..... for me i would pass on it just because of the fracking , but the first thing to find out about a used truck is why is it being sold .
Johny41 Thanks this.
