I guess. But a good or bad area also depends where you're going to or coming from. I don't know how many people here are from Arkansas. I guess it also depends on what you haul. (I've heard that Florida is bad for vans).

If this is a problem Misesian, feel free to be vague.

I run AR to the NE and MidAtlantic, back to the Midwest, and back to AR. If there isn’t something towards AR I’ll reluctantly head back East with something. Lots of frozen, followed by fresh meat, and dairy products. I rarely touch produce, one of those every two or three months and usually from on of the East coast ports. I don’t care for produce, seems to always be something wrong that holds you up.

It's been well over a decade since i played in the reefer game, but back then fresh produce paid substantially more than other freight. Yes there was often a delay getting loaded but the increased rate made up for it. This was produce from local packing houses, not the big importers at the ports. That imported crap always paid garbage.

The better paying stuff was the more delicate and sensitive fruits. Strawberries and blueberries, not watermelon and corn.

Maybe take a short vacation to florida and spend a couple days driving around plant city talking to the packing warehouses and produce brokers.

I heard some guys talking about their quarterly IFTA the other day. These guys were paying almost 2000.00 in one quarter for IFTA taxes. I’m pretty sure their company is ripping them off. Is that even possible to rack up a tax bill like that? My IFTA is 35-55 bucks per quarter, and that’s only because of the HUT taxes I get in NY and KY. I don’t know how someone can afford to pay that much in a quarter on IFTA. I just thought it was crazy to hear the numbers these guys were paying.

    I
Maybe they were talking about totals. Typically, when filing quarterlies it is an underpayment that's due - mine for the last quarter was $115. If looking at the whole quarter total fuel tax amount though, it could be easily $2000 (what you pay at pumps and then when you file).
For example, Pennsylvania state fuel tax alone cost me over $126 for only 1000 miles I did there and had not bought any of their fuel.

If their company was charging them as much in addition to the tax they paid when purchasing fuel, that's outright criminal. On the other hand, I can't imagine they would be such fools to let themselves be ripped off like that either. LOL

1st quarter of 19 I owed $7.84 of which $6.83 went to Va for the surcharge. I was talking to a new owner op that is leased on to a company, and he had no clue about ifta. I asked him what app he was using to find the best fuel price, and he had no idea there’s apps for that. So I can believe it.

I was able to reach someone about my full coverage skirt issue. He is supposed to have everything to me by the end of next week to get what I need and work on getting it shipped. It’s a long story, but it is available, as a custom order.
I also was able to reach a guy about the MirrorEye system finally. He is going to figure out pricing and hopefully get back with me next week.
I’d like to get all this figured out, so that when I come into town in a couple weeks or so, I can get it all done.
I had a really nice fill today though, 8.95 mpg, 1620 miles, 147 were empty miles. 75k gross from NY to MN and 72500 from Iowa to Van Buren, AR.
I didn’t expect the new trailer, as it sits right now, to give me a fuel mileage increase, but it has. If I can get the rest of this stuff done, I’m pretty confident I can average 9+ mpg in my operation. As a comparison, the most recent Shell Starship truck averaged 8.93 on a CA to FL run, across I 10, 73k gross, and had a lot of custom stuff on it, including an electric hybrid axle. If I can hit 9+ with off the shelf products, that’s a big deal. I have a couple people at International that have taken some interest in what I’m doing and they want to see numbers, once I finish with the camera system and skirt.

I’d like to but I don’t think it would last too long. There are plenty of times I need to jump a curb a little to get into a dock door.
