That really is a bunch of BS and i now find it even harder to believe anything you say. My grandfather is a retired truck driver. Supported his family for 30 years. My father drove truck for 15 years and supported us just fine. There are plenty of people with families and homes out there that are supporting them just fine. Again it seems like you came into this expecting to become rich. There isnt tons of money to be made in this industry, but there is money to be made. From what your original post stated, it seems like you came from a lifestyle and a job that included some nice sums of cash. Well snap out of it. Those days are gone.

Thanks for the info. I was about to go to TransAm but then after I saw that the economy tanked, I decided that I would put trucking on hold. Yes, many drivers with years of senority have made a living to support a family.. I have spoken to several drivers at TA & Pilot, many have said to wait until the economy improves/ Trans
Am told me that there waw a 4 - 6 week wait to get into orientation. Unemployement just approved me, I will return to school until the economy improves and then maybe I will hit the road.

Again , thank you for sharing your experience with us. As one door closes, another will open if you are honest with yourself and the one above.
Wishing you nothing but success and happiness this year and next year.

"I think we have to take Old Guy's commentary with a grain of salt. Until we hear from company drivers, it's hard to issue a fair ruling against TransAm. To newbies reading this thread, I'd recommend paying particular attention to Thumper's commentary, as this person has been around the block and knows what they are talking about. Perhaps the reason there is little commentary from company drivers is that they are reasonably satisfied with TransAM?"

Go to the search function above and type in Transam. You'll find several different threads on the company, both good and bad. I'm a company driver and have posted in both sections.

"I've been in contact with TransAm for two weeks now. My recruiter says drivers are averaging 2800-3100 miles per week as of March. Recruiter says this figure comes from taking the total miles driven per month, then dividing it by four. Recruiter also says that their alleged practice of coercing newbies into the lease option is false. "

Your recruiter is lieing to you and getting paid for it. Most of the drivers I talk to are averaging around 2000 miles. I'm averaging a bit more than that but I have one kick ##### DM whom I have a good relationship with. Don't think Old Guy and the others are lieing about their troubles with TA. Even Thumper has admitted that some of his buds are having problems and quitting TA. The 2800 to 3100 is just a flat out lie for most drivers.
As to the coercing. Read my other post cause I ain't going into here, again. It is there and it is subtle. When it comes to leasing, just remember this, THEY hold all the cards.

Another thing to remember about all these companies that are hiring. Their all on the government teat. They get paid, by the gov., to train You. Of course their going to do it. Want to make trucking a better place? Stop the retraining slush fund.

You don't have to believe what I say. I don't care. I merely post here what I experienced and the conclusions I drew from it. I averaged less than $265.00 per week working on the road. Most weeks it was less than $120.00. I had two weeks that raised the average. One week I drove 3600 miles and cleared $1,130.00. The other week was $660.00. I had 1 week that was -$312.00 and another that was -$65.00. What I made each week was out of my control. I do not like to cede control of my life to people who could not care less whether I made a living or not. That is a recipe for bankruptcy. After 16 weeks driving for TransAm, I was worse off than I would have been on unemployment. If you wish to be a part of this system-go for it. It is your life. I am doing other things with mine.

wow.w/this attitude and disdain, I am thinking that this "student" may not get past the knowledge portion as he/she already knows everything and nothing at the same time.
i have no idea what it is like to sit in a CDL class, but i bet that this poster's classmates and eventual trainer are none too happy.
Feel free to post your rebuttal.

Hey OG56-let'em jump on into the fire whether they are company or L/O drivers. You can not advise someone that already knows everything of a thing.Hey I know-take what they say w/a grain of salt. They will be training the trainer before they even graduate from that CDL mill.
i am jealous as i wish i could have gone to a driving school and know as much as these people do before i even entered it.If I ever encounter them out on the road, I'll probably have to put it in the far left lane to get around them as they drag race each other doing 62 in a 70 as soon as they get out of that school that they really do not have to attend because each just knows that their truck will out pull the other.
are all wannabe drivers this full of it?My how times have changed and no wonder drivers don't want to help another out these days-you can't assist someone that knows it all.
OG56 i am saddened that you actually have been upfront w/YOUR personal experiences yet you are basically called a liar.I know that you are fully aware that all drivers do not possess the attitude of the few on here.It blows my mind that those with the worst attitude can't even legally drive a commercial vehicle yet.WTF?

Ohhhhhhhh OK Trans Am has a lot of deadhead miles, is that correct? If so I can see, the company I'm with gets paid FSC to go into the meat plants and rarely have a deadhead over 90 to 100 miles.

TransAm had me do a 1200 mile deadhead from Athens, Ga to Dodge City KS once when they could not find a load to get me back west. Whenever I was about to qualify for layover pay, I was usually dispatched on a 250 + mile deadhead to kill it.
