Our trucks are in use today, not in the future.

    SAR Thanks this.

Keep in mind that very early MX engines had problems with their piston rings, so it is not unreasonable to assume that they took a bit of oil consumption as a price to pay to resolve these problems.

I think it was more of a carbon packing issue. All MX here have the APR in upper portion of cylinder liner.

SAR, pushbroom and Humblepie Thank this.

Yes, and for today's engines you can use CK-4.
Completely new oil specifications are set up before engines for those oils exist. These new oils standards take years to develop, and certainly today when the oils have to be low SAP and very thin to improve on fuel economy. At the same time these oils have take more heat and pressure than ever before, with lower tolerances.

So, you are really changing your oil two or three times during the interval with add oil. Expensive add oil.

Interesting. Design an engine for the oil you want to use rather than designing an oil for the engine.

    Not really.
The amount off added oil has to be within reason.

    Oxbow and spsauerland Thank this.

I suppose if the consumption is the same with fresh oil as it is near the end of the interval, then it certainly isn't an oil degradation issue.

SAR, KVB, pushbroom and 2 others Thank this.

Based on your hypothesis, MB/Daimler and Cummins are more advanced and better engineered engines?
