Leaking oil after clutch replacement. Where is it coming from?

your truck has less than 500k miles. Go to dealer and check the warranty. Your engine may have factory 500k warranty and it can be fixed free.

 

extended warranty is 5 year/500k miles . Not all engines have extended warranty. You need to check it at dealer.

 

Well I actually am a dinosaur so I can't tell you anything about a dd15.

But from what I think he's saying he brought the truck in on a Friday with no oil leak, they put a new clutch in, he picked it up on Monday and he's blowing oil everywhere. They very well may have tried to install it without the tool. Whatever they did it sounds like it's improperly installed.

Again, I really am a dinosaur, but I don't understand how a dd15 can have a rear seal that last almost forever but every other engine you replace it with the clutch.

There is a tool that is sold for installing every seal on every engine, pinion seals also. I just sincerely don't understand what the difference is between that engine and any other engine, because there's a crankshaft and a seal that seals it.

Some seals can last a remarkably long time, but I would always replace the seal if you pull the transmission. That's just maintenance so that you don't develop a leak in a short period of time and the transmission has to come out again.

 

the bull gear of 12.7l series 60 would last 700-800k. the bull gear of 14l series 60 will go 3 x longer... same way if instead of rubber is used something better material (fluoroelastomer), seal will last 2x longer.

 

But if they did replace it which I allways do on a clutch job (it is cheap ins) they could have put the wrong seal in I just went through this and when the mech put the new seal in he looked up at me and the shop owner and said that one went in way easier then the first one

But I have a very good long-standing relationship with the shop so it was on them.

You have a serious rear main seal leak, get it fixed because if you don't, you will replace the clutch really quickly and if you get inspected, it can put you oos.

Take it to a dealer who will pull the trans, clutch and flywheel to see where the leak is.

 

No don't go back, just get it looked at by someone who deals with that engine.
