Then how come Big Joe didn’t bring his rig to a controlled stop instead of swerving into the ditch?
Wasn’t he driving too fast for the conditions?

Westinghouse did. For the railroads, airbraking systems. Inplemented by law in the 1880's time period. Before then the engineer would whistle for brakes on the train. The front head breakman got up top of the railcars and started turning a wheel until tight, jump to the next rocking and rolling car turn that wheel. The rear brake man worked forward from caboose. It will take a while.

Sometimes when too much is applied the hook and peg couplers failed and train broke apart. On a mountain that means the engineer must floor the engine wide open to stay ahead of runaway death.

IF any railroad stations in the path expecting a opposite train on schedule (Single track) would get a very special alarm whistle. (Short 0's repeated) and use telegraph to clear the track for miles. If possible.

They did not always make it.

Westinghouse put three systems onto a train. Independent for engine, train braking for the entire train and a form of spring braking when the entire air system fails. (Big hole) it will absolutely stop if there is a break in the train anywhere.

Our trucks is a adaptation of that.

Mostly right, except that there is no spring brakes. All applications are by air, it's why railcars still have the manual brakes on them. All they do is pull on the brake rod to apply the brakes, so when the air bleeds off it won't roll away.

They already have. It is called a Jake brake. And the ability to feather the brakes with light pressure. The key is being able to know how to control a truck.

He created the hill driving way too fast, outdriving his sight distance?? And had to ditch the truck to keep from hitting the bus.

Also railroads are very slight grades. And a diesel electric locomotive has dynamic braking.

That's really important, don't ever kill the kids.

That's the root cause of my anger against this Cuban. He killed people and hurt more. Hes had at least 15 minutes from where he passed that one escape ramp all the way down to Denver west to get stopped.

The bottom line for me is that it just shows how desperate and critical our need for real driver training truly is. While we protest E logs, treatment from shippers and receivers, HOS, and everything else under the sun, the probem is right before our eyes. It's the one thing I think most responsible drivers can agree on and should demand. Everything else is just BS.

The industry needs better drivers period. The motoring public would appreciate it and support it as well. It's going to cost though. There is a severe driver shortage. The ones at the top just aren't being honest about what they are doing to solve it. We know though.
