Does it matter which company you start with? Are there companies that good outfits won't hire from?

Not that I'm aware of. Depends on your PSP and such from the time you were at that particular company that would be more importantly. Badd companies can have good drivers, and good companies can have badd drivers.

FYI: if any of you guys are in the east texas area, the Delek Tyler Rack is closing/ or drastically reducing allocations for a week. Starting today

Well, sat on that Pilot job for too long thanks to the apartment search getting in the way. They said they'll stay in contact if the n00b doesn't work out. The other guy that applied only had a year of experience.
I guess it's time to bare-bones my apartment and get prepped to bug out should another offer like that arise. That trash truck people won't be too happy with all the bags!!

On another note, I really wish companies would do away with their "employee retention" nonsense. Respect the two week notice and leave me alone as I make my exit. Employee retention seems to be a soft form of maintaining an aura of indentured servitude.

I’m also looking going into hauling fuel when I graduate driving school. There is one place up here in Upstate NY that hires grads out of school. Wadhams Enterprises. Pay probably isn’t the greatest starting out but at least I’ll be able to #### and sleep in my own home every night while getting the experience needed. I know they also have a milk tanker division as well.

I'd stay away from milk, unless they pay by the hour. I haul milk, paid by the load, minimum 13 hour day, yesterday was 16. I'm only staying because trucking in Phoenix is absolutely horrible and these guys do pay good. You just have zero life.
And the quality of most of the drivers that haul milk is stunningly bad.

I will think twice about that now. Maybe I’ll just stick with their petroleum division if I do end up with them.

And just when you think you're done, another 2-3 loads get dumped on you. I only shuttle the milk trailers now. Last company I was at ran me into the ground.

Definitely far more options outside of wackriculture. Plenty of yards and terminals for all sorts of hauling, ripe for the picking.
