Are you routed that way? Seems like an odd route when 131 is a lot easier

Yes. I’m routed like that. 131 would have made too much sense. I found 222 btw

In a way I wish there was a set rate for what I do with this company, but the rates are different on every single load because of distance each load is trucked to. I’m not getting into mileage and gross pay to the truck but..... my truck averages $1000 + @ day or it sets. These fly by nights or “moonlighters” as my kinfolk called them are hauling for $1.50+ a mile. How much is there truck going to gross a day at that rate? How many legal miles can they drive in a day? Hope this sheds some light.

You want to start thinking about things a little different then....don't worry about what the rate per mile is. There's always more miles to run. Time is the most valuable commodity. Once you've figured in the fixed cost of your fuel, repairs, insurance, etc. then you decide how much your time is worth.

And not just the time you spend hauling it today. Pay yourself a little for those days off and the eventual time when you're too old to truck anymore.

As a side note..... my truck has never exceeded 500 miles in a single day. Usually 450 or less, and my dinasour still makes that $1000 per day. DONT HAUL CHEAP..... we are better than that men!
You know I smoked for 27 yrs. Wife can tell ya, I ate a lot more when I smoked!!

It’s not a big secret on rates. But just comparing rates is apples to oranges. The problem is that.
    1. It’s impolite to ask someone about their money. And it’s even more impolite to ask in an open forum. If he want to volunteer that info fine, but never ask.
    2. Everyone has a different way of figuring rates. I figure my cost to run the load then add a percentage to that. My percentage may seem high to some low to others. But I’m happy with it, and it seems to work. Dollars per mile is irrelevant if it meets my threshold. I charge the same regardless of who is paying broker/direct customer. That is a point of contention with some. And that’s fine. All that said I don’t turn down stupid money and if they start higher than I figured I always ask for more. Brokers never are as all in as they act.
