I agree with all of this. I've saif for atleast the last 2yrs that a truck needs to gross 1k/day minimum to be profitable and sustainable. My soon to be former bosses dont understand this. Just run freight and make some $ is their thinking. Short haul, high revenue is where its at.

Absolutely and that's exactly how I think. I know the costs, I see the revenue and right now and for atleast he rest of the year I cannot see an increase in my pay by owning my own truck.

If you dont ask questions, you might not learn something. What if a load like he posted pays $400 on 35mi, but he is able to run 3 of them in 1 day? Or maybe that load pays $1095 but goes 437mi away. I see alot of this where Im at. Its all a #'s game and you have to learn how to play. And sometimes that means asking questions.

For instance, I know how to operate an RGN, secure oversized loads and get them where they need to go. But I have no idea the $ side of it, other than a few of the costs just to move a load. I'd love to learn that side as well in time. But, like you've pointed out, people dont always volunteer that info, so sometimes you have to ask if you want to know.

20190501_095843~2.jpg And I rolled into Bryan, Tx a bit ago.

This ignorance and a little stupidity that I dealt with today just confirms I made the right choicd to leave this company.

Was unloaded with the HD crap at about 8:30, then at the metal supplier by 9. They told me they put my load on one of their trailers, so I just had to transload it onto mine (pic at the bottom). So I informed my boss/dispatcher at about 9:15. I sit and wait a bit, then get antsy because they haven't pulled me in yet, so come to find out they had just started loading the crap onto their trailer right before I got there. Took them an hour and they finally loaded me at 10:15. I was tarping by 10:30 (cant get any wind or sunshine on that metal thats going to be stored outside at the drop off). Im done and in the truck at noon. I hate tarping, so I never rush myself.

My ignorant boss thought that I was loaded and tarped and rolling at 9:15. She called me at 12:40 and couldn't understand why I was only 38mi north of Laredo. I had to ask her how long she thinks it takes to tarp a load...no idea. Then she informed me that I had a 6pm pick up here in Bryan that drops off in Houston at 7am, with a scheduled 9am pickup of pipe going back to SA. She thought I should "have plenty of time to unload and then pick up". She thought it would only take me "about 3-4hrs" to go 320mi. She continually shows no concept of how much time some things take. Blows my mind.

I have become such an angry person because I constantly try to be the guy that gets stuff done and let people abuse my willingness to work. Its beem nothin but a downward spiral staying with these people and I regret the heck out of it.

Each job in the industry should require 5 years driving experience. Then they may have a 10% clue

Try to focus on the positives. Remember when Humble bought you a taco? He never bought me a taco, but I’m not angry.
