I guess a stick on the brake pedal was too simple

Or the brake trolley, but some company trucks do not even have one anymore.

I don't know. Ive driven some early trucks with ABS and tractor braking is always difficult bobtail. Particularly the tractor in my avatar.

This is why the rates to fix trucks is so high, no one knows what the hell this thing does or any other thing on a truck for that matter, I bet your even Freightliner doesn’t.

Trolley brake, stick braking, checking brake lights to disconnecting trailers.

Now I really need to rethink things through.

I’m just gonna say that it’s for checking brake lights.

Because if it’s for disconnecting 5th wheel the red line doesn’t need to be charged.

If it’s for holding the trailer to move tandems setting the brakes already accomplishes that.

If it’s to hold the brakes on the trailer while you disconnect not sure why someone would disconnect while the lines are hooked up.

    Oh crap I got it.

    It’s for swift drivers.

Yea, but the three buttons were long gone before abs came to be. I have a 96,97,and a 99, all three of which do not have real brakes unless the trailer valve is pushed in, all others of that era were the same way.

Unless it’s a trailer without spring brakes

Unless it’s a trailer without spring brakes. Yes you could use the spike if the truck has one

Because their trailer doesn’t have spring brakes

We have a trailer without spring brakes and you can chase that thing all over the yard trying to back under it if you don’t hook the lines up first and charge the system and apply service brakes

    ...or this
“With “Spring Brake Priority”, air pressure is routed directly. from the supply gladhand (also referred to as the “emergency” gladhand), to the spring brakes. This is accomplished in the. “Spring Brake Priority” provides the ability to quickly move a vehicle without waiting for the reservoir to fill.”

@rank oo now it make sense, trailers without spring brakes need to be chocked landing gear down and then apply switch to engage brakes to disconnect.

    Learn something new everyday.

    Thanks now I understand.

Lol... That makes me laugh... My first encounter with a trailer like that I did just that... I finally got it pushed up against a haystack and got it hooked up... About that time the truck boss showed up and started laughing as he examined the tire tracks from me chasing that #### trailer.

He says "How long that take you to get it clear over to the haystack?"

I told him " Longer than next time will take me... Cause when I'm done with it in parking it against the back of the haystack!"

Then he explained how to properly hook up that trailer. I felt like an idiot.
