Pretty much.
There is such a thing as too fast. If I came off say Milesburg east on 80 at 90+ there is no stopping. The curve at the bottom would run me to my death plus anyone else in the way. Milesburg is just too big.
Same with mountains that have escape ramps. The recent briefing indicated several ramps or at least several escape places made to stop trucks.
I am not your opponet. You have been pretty good and I just feel strongly that there are way too many problems that finally came together to hurt and kill people. For me that is quite enough of that.
If I lost someone who is loved you can write a check for a mountain of gold. But it will not fill the empty in the heart.
Horrible crash in Lakewood CO, I70 closed both directions. 12 vehicles 4 semi huge fire

Monday morning quarter backing is easy to do, However we all agree that the training of new drivers is lacking to say the least.
Back to what I preach, you can not teach what you do not know. Trainers that have less than 5 years experience can not be trainer no matter what certificate you give them that say's there trainers.
Ultimately the company needs to be held liable, because anything less doe not change anything. This driver showed lack of judgement to say the least, But also there was no intent to go out and kill anyone. He should absolutely face punishment , but what that should be I don't know.
What I do hope is that FMCSA puts in some real requirements for trainers, experience levels should go with the license, also liability levels to the companies for not enforcing mandatory training levels for their drivers.
And the unfortunate part is you can not teach or legislate common sense.
I do hope we all learn from this, and we all institute additional safety measures. I spend alot of time driving in traffic in and out of LAX multiple times per day (USPS Mail run) and 18 wheelers inches away from the rear of 4 wheelers going down Sepulveda Pass, its amazing this does not happen more.
All our Prayers go to the families involved, end of my rant.Lepton1 Thanks this. -

What would happen if the powers that require CDL training to be accredited and shut down CDL mills (including miracle mega carrier boot camps)? Community colleges should already have more accountability than pop-up CDL schools, considering where their money comes from. Plus, their programs are longer. There's more time for the info to soak into your head.
loudtom Thanks this. -
this is why i am TOTALLY AGAINEST, ANYONE UNDER THE AGE OF 21 to get a CDL..(you recall some want 18 year olds to be able to get a CDL??...huh...??)...HOW MUCH EXPERIENCE will those 18 year olds have, over his age of 23..????????????????
you wanna see more deadly accidents like this...????
what will be your response then....?
"oh well, he was young and inexperienced and lacked maturity"..???
YOU VAILDATED THE POINT, THAT YOUNG DRIVERS, DO NOT HAVE THE MATURITY, to handle a big rig!!!
THANKS...!!!!!!!
so now, by your posting, and his barreling down the highway, it's "ok, cuz he was young and lacked maturity"..?????
HE HAD many opportunities to ditch the truck in a ran-a-way ramp, and FAILED to do so...
i do not feel sorry for him.....Bud A. Thanks this. -
a student driver, teaching a student...right..???
once the student gets his/her CDL form any school it is up to to the trucking company's mentoring system to hone thier skills.
unless you want all mega carriers to fully train all students, and completely do away with private CDL schools..??
that ain't gonna happen, in our lifetime -
That's the issue, it's the testers are not failing folks who should be. The CDL hasn't really helped improve safety, it's just turned into a paperwork and money game.mjd4277 Thanks this.
