  1. I realize it may be a taboo word but have you ever loaded or moved any Tesla cars?

That makes more sense. That's really good information you found.
Where you are looking at only fixing things behind the spring hanger, I would cut it straight up and down and add onto that. If you were asking about a repair between the far rear spring hanger and the far front spring hanger, I would angle cut it.

Yes. If it's possible, I try to plate 3 sides. Top of top flange, bottom of bottom flange and outside of the vertical web. I also cut my plate ends on a 45* angle that comes to a point in the center of the plate and weld all the way around.

Cut the 45* angles like this.

Here's the simple explanation for cutting them like this as explained by my engineer. Cutting the angles brings the stress to the center of the frame rail section you're welding to and greatly reduces the stress risers that are common with square cut plates.

Should have added: this is a picture from the net for explanation purposes.

    Yep!!!
I come from a family of very talented carpenters, but chose metal over wood. If they cut their board too short, they have to go buy another one. If I cut my stuff too short, I weld it back together and start over.:D
