So the train takes the fruit directly from the farm to your house? That is amazing.

No, neither did the trucks. The fruit is transported to the warehouses of supermarket chains. By the way, they use containers.

& how many Truck movements are needed to consolidate & distribute all this Fruit & Vegetables To & from the rail ??
How is this achieved ?? By transferring the Containers from 1 train to another ?? or by changing the Bogies??

    Maybe..??
I'm pretty sure that there'd be a LOT more man hours involved..
Can't see it being any cheaper or quicker.... (in my opinion)

Company I work sends groupage for Spain/Portugal. They use spanish/portugese companies, 2 drivers.

They do 2500 km in A-C transit. I used to work with trains, we worked with dutch company (ERS Railways), they went bankrupt. Loads were late 80% of time, always a problem. I would never even try to put a working reefer on that train.

So when I read that new train is introduced, it will save polar bears I laugh. It won't work.

Train broke down in Germany, "sorry, we can't do anything about it".
After 3 days, choose 3 trailers (out of 16) which you need asap. o_O
Driver comes to pick up trailer and sees that. Trailer needed new floor. Dutch engineering at it's finest.

    Quicker.........depends on the train operation.
Some are quick some are slowwww.
    Cheaper....for shure.
No roadtolls and you can gross 4mt extra.

Reefer is offcourse very time sensitive.

A lot off freight goes by container on trains and/or shortsea.

Humblepie, spsauerland and Oxbow Thank this.

I wouldn't care so much about time on reefer (frozen stuff can be kept for longer time).

It's just that engines like to fail even on new reefer, and if you don't fix it quickly, you can say bye-bye to goods. I never leave reefer working on diesel alone, even if it's connected to electricity, I still check it from time to time.

I would not put trailers on a train.
    Cans are the best way.
