I have a friend who is applying for his own MC number, but that will take about 30 days. Meanwhile, he asked to drive under my MC number to keep making money. As far as I know, I need to add him to my insurance - liability and cargo and add him to drug consortium/do pre-employment drug test. I read that he needs to sign a lease agreement and put my signs on his truck. He has his own plates/irp.

    Questions:

anything else he needs to sign to legally operate?
can he do his own IFTA?
he will find his own loads, so can he get paid directly or all the checks have to go through me?

    anything else I am missing?

    Thanks in advance

He can run his own plates/IFTA, but when he goes to the DMV it will have to say Leased to "Your Company LLC" and on the cab card it will say "Your Company LLC" I've done it before using my own plates...

He can find his own loads and say you wanna do 80/20.. you keep 20 give him 80% of the load since hes leased to you... You just pay him 80% of the gross that you made off his truck for the entire week...

IF he doesn't wanna go through the BS of running his own plates then you can provide him a plate, that might be easier to do and just charge him a set amount per week for the plate, but if you did that then you are gonna have to pay like $1500 for the plate and charge him so much per week...

On his truck it will say Leased to "Your company LLC"

Question.......have you looked into how much the down payment will be to add his truck? Is he ok with throwing away a couple grand?

Insurance company will look at it as turnover. That will reflect when you renew.

You have to have a complete driver file on him in your office, drug test, preemployment verification driving record, etc, it ain't like it use to be.

and if he cannot pass the urine test, maybe proof of a SAP program?

i say, "let him wait, till he gets his own", why possibly damage his CSA score..??

For only 30 days it's more of a pain to get him on your authority than to just wait, just the way I see it though.

Not worth the risks. Say NO.
Claim that the time it will take to do all the things needed will take almost as long.
Then tell him if you could do it, he will need to put some serious cash in your hand to cover the costs.
