Yeah, time flies, this was 20 years ago ( already) We went that way to Florida every year, and the trucks were backed up to the rest area and I'm sure some kind of official was walking around.. I don't remember it being 45 for trucks. Maybe they figured, it was better to start down the hill from a dead stop and years ago, not every truck had an engine brake. Thanks for the update, not that I'll ever need it anymore.

From 99 up to 10 years ago I would see MT eagle fairly often, never seen an official there. If trucks were backed up dot might have been pulling an inspection or the leo looking for someone particular.

They smoothed it out years ago. 30 years ago, that westbound side climb was full of switchbacks. And the decline on the west, where you see all the signs on that first right hander past the pickle park, that used to be an off cambered right hander. The road was curved right and banked left. Thousands of unaware trucks rolled at that spot.

That east side was fast and steep. The runaway ramp was on the right side. If it failed to stop you, you and your rig would do a magnificent airborne trip to the bottom.

If you look carefully, you can still see the remnants of the old roads. Lots of people died there...not just the truckers.

Lots of the old time runaway ramps were never meant to save the drivers life, but to save the others on the road, still some around on secondary roads that take the driver over a cliff, or was just a few years ago.
If you have ever watched a truck hit one of the modern ones, you will know right quick that you don't ever want to go that route if at all possible.

The law states must speak and read English fluently enough to converse with the general populace. Or something to that effect. A post accident interview at the county jail is a whole different ballgame. I can speak and read/write enough spanish to get my truck loaded or unloaded at a job site, but stick me in a Mexican jail cell with a crime scene investigator and my freedom on the line, i want a #### interpreter. Cant fault the guy for that.

I ain't sticking up for the guy, as far as I'm concerned he had no business being on that road and should be locked away for a long time. I'm just saying, at this point, we don't have any evidence yay or nay about his ability to meet the communication standards to met the cdl laws.

And every grocery will have bare shelves inside a week leading to mass riots over the entire nation. Great plan.

Remember we are over capacity. (Sarcasm)

But in retrospect his argument is flawed, you can become a citizen with limited English and no need of English if over 55.

I actually AM sticking up for this guy. I hope that he gets jail time, but not a long sentence. He is not a criminal and had no evil plans that morning.

His mistake was speaking to the police at all. Should have refused.

He is young and your people learn languages quickly. If he had his CDL for two years, I bet his English was enough to satisfy the CDL standards.
