Hi Guys, I a little stumped on how to separate a broken right side hood hinge bracket from the hood. I went and got a replacement bracket and the adhesive which is a 3m 08115 product. The lower part where the bracket slides into the square tube that runs across the bottom is where it broke. So how in the world do I separate the bracket from hood without destroying the hood? I thought I could heat it and melt the adhesive but the directions on the glue says heat will help cure it. I already have the hood off, would I be better off taking it to a body shop?
Any advise is appreciated. Thanks, Rob.

With the hood removed.
Using a torch, heat the part of the bracket that is attached to the hood. At 350°F (175°C) the adhesive will become soft. Pry the bracket loose from the hood.
While the adhesive is still soft, scrape it off the hood.
Clean the bonding surfaces with 3MTM General Purpose Adhesive Cleaner.
Inspect the area closely to be sure all adhesive, dirt, water, grease, and oils are removed.
Scuff the bonding surfaces of the hood and the pivot bracket with 80-grit sandpaper.
Blow off the sanding residue with clean compressed air.
Do not wipe with solvent.
Use 3M Automix 8273 to glue the hinge back in place.
NOTE: When dispensing 3M Automix two-part adhesives, the first few inches to come from the cartridge will be discolored; discard this adhesive.
Apply the adhesive when a continuous bead of uniform size and color are produced.
Position the pivot bracket in place, using the cap screws (if equipped) or dowels through the holes to locate the bracket accurately.
Tighten the cap screws (if equipped) or use
clamps to secure the bracket against the hood until the adhesive has hardened.
NOTE: When clamping parts together, there should be a gap between the parts for the adhesive to bond properly.
The spacing of the gap should be about the thickness of a paper clip. If necessary, use paper clips as spacers at several places to act as spacers.
If clamps were used, let the adhesive dry, as
specified in the adhesive instructions, before removing the clamps.Last edited: Aug 18, 2017

At 350 degrees wont it melt the fiberglass?
-
You're heating the adhesive and the bracket, not the fiberglass.
Fiberglass doesn't melt, it burns
That's the official procedure to R&R the hinges.Last edited: Aug 17, 2017

Thanks for the advice boneebone. It only took about 5 minutes of heating with my propane torch and it came right off.
