The next question would be if anything else may have been damaged for driving the equipment like that.

So, the u joint is a little scuffed up, the shock absorbers are toast and I'm sure the alignment is ####. Other than that I dont see anything else

I would replace all air springs just for peace of mind. . The truck was operating in Minnesota, cold weather kills rubber losing elasticity , i have specific winter problems here with rubber parts on the truck, gaskets, airline fittings, hoses cold leaking, belts snapped .The air springs collect moisture freezes develop small cracks and become weaker start bulging expanding horizontally, losing vertical weight lift capacity, even if are not leaking air. If one is weaker , the other 3 have to take over lift the weight to air ride height, and they become weak soon also, overloading one axle, bearings wearing tires. I never keep them for more than two years, are cheap, aprox 100$ each, all 4 for the price of a tire and i always replace them all same time. They have some marking on the side to pay attention ,even if are volvo, could be for different truck, shorter or longer at same pressure, i got different mixed installed and the truck was bouncing bad.

That's a good point, I'll add it to the list. I did take a spray bottle and go over them thoroughly and didnt see ant leaks however I do see a small amount of cracks similar to dry rot on the bags. I'll slap some new ones on next pay check.

just an update - truck has been fine since the new spring and top plastic spacer piece has been added. The yard snuck a 49,880lb load on me last minute going 4 miles and lied saying it was 19,000lbs but she held up just fine.

I noticed the other day that my rear struts are actually on the wrong bolt up top. There is two sets of bolt holes and mine are on the lower bolt hole. I noticed every other volvo vnl on the yard had the struts on the top bolt hole. I'm going to swap these around this weekend and see if i dont lose some vibration on the highway due to it.

anyway :) hope all is well with everyone who helped previously. thanks again guys

what shocks you have installed on right now?? If it’s Gabriel you can check on their website if it’s right one for your model year truck. They make different stroke length shocks for different years of VNL trucks. Mines last axle are on the bottom hole. Can you measure your frame rail from top to bottom, it’s either 300 or 266mm.

Thanks for the reply, I just ordered 4 new shocks for the truck. Amazon has deals on the gabriel shocks for about $13 each (open box) (new $45-50).

The truck looks to have the OEM shocks on it... like the original from 2007 Volvo part. Someone painted them to look new apparently lol

I picked up the part number for the shocks from the dealer and cross referenced them to a gabriel part # 85066

They also have 85061 but the compression difference is half of the rate of the OEM 85066 so fyi if anyone is running 85061 they are only working half of what they should be but they are same length

I should have mentioned that a parts guy from the Freightliner in Phoenix, AZ told me lots of people were returning those shocks. I got me some Monroe. Good shocks so far. These shocks are also gas and oil shocks, while Gabriel and the originals are only oil. The originals cost twice as much, but they really do last. I had one leaking after over 600k miles. I suspect shocks will eventually only be offered are gas/oil shocks and oil-only shocks will be discontinued.

Yes you are right, a lot of drivers are switching due to longer life out of the gas oil combo.

I figure if I can get a year or two out of the cheap shocks I would be happy. I picked up four for $13 each free shipping. Anything will be better then what's on here now lol
