I removed the word "backhaul" from my vocabulary. We dont use it. That cheap backhaul is someone elses "fronthaul". Your under cutting a guy that lives right there.

Backhaul only used for educational purpose.

Charge 4.00 going in and leave. 3.00 in and 1.00 coming out is still 2.00per mile average and 1 more load.

I loath the word backhaul!!! As you said if you haul it cheap to get out of a area you under cutting someone’s outbound freight!! If I get four out I want four coming back!! But will settle for 2 something depending on what it is and where it’s going!! I can do math pretty good for going to a South Carolina school as a kid!! I get 3 plus 1 divided by 2 is 2!! However since it didn’t get any cheaper to haul that next load than it was too haul the first I’m not yet willing to book that dollar a mile freight even if it does still keep me at 2 for the week!! I know by the time you add in my bounce to a area that has 2 or 3 dollar mile freight!! I know I’m only coming out a few pennies ahead I’m not willing to do it any other way!! Since my customers don’t need me to come straight back to get the next load I can afford to not do it that way!! I wish everyone did it my way but I get different strokes for different folks!! And at the end of the day my bottom line only mattered to me and mine!! But I wouldn’t intentionally try to screw the next guy especially not at a cheap rate

Wouldn’t you make up the difference going back home? I don’t like cheap loads either was just saying. That being your home hopefully you would come across loads that “paid well” at say $2 then coming back home would be a big score.
