Unordered product left on my truck by receiver, what can I do?

Is the unordered/additional product on the BoL? If not, it was never on the truck.

Ship it back on LTL carrier freight collect.

 

If your paperwork says your truck is empty.... then your truck is empty....... going forward remember this and only contact your customer or broker if it is a good relationship ship you don't want to foul...

I've had this happen 3 or 4 times....

 

Have a yard sale or flea market sale.
Get on the CB radio and sell it.

 

Go to the truck stop , if ya got food it will go fast.. Truckers love free ####, especially if its free #### on the customers dime

 

I run reefer and have had a few OSD issues over the years. I've never had a broker unwilling to get the load finished though. Nobody gets paid until the product is disposed of (trashed, returned, etc) so they are usually eager to tell you what to do next. I would be shocked if they didn't have language in their consignee contract stipulating what to do with rejected product.

My dogs ate free dog food for a year once when a new forklift operator speared about half the pallets he off-loaded. Broker said dispose of it, so I did.

Another time, I got paid double rate to return some fancy powdered chemical back 1000 miles to the same dock door they loaded it out of. It was almost Christmas and it had been my go home load. Nice Christmas bonus, haha.

Walmart is notorious for rejecting produce. They order based on expected sales and then, if they don't sell what they expected, they come up with any excuse to reject the excess product. Here's a pic of some "bad" jalapenos I had rejected. Don't they look awful?

Brokers and shippers who deal with Walmart produce have back-up receivers already in place. Usually, I'll make a few hundred extra dollars to drive it a few miles further down the road. They off-load fast, never charge lumper, and if I ask, I can usually get a sack full of whatever it was.

I suppose what you do next depends on several factors. The cost of the product, whether or not it will spoil or requires special storage, and whether or not you want to do business with that broker again.

You may want to give your cargo insurance carrier a call and they can help you decide what you are going to do next. They may shoot the broker and shipper an email letting them know that, due to non-performance, any claim on this load will be rejected. That will probably get some movement.

And, I guess we'll never get to find out what happened. Looks like the OP only ever created this one post. Seems it's pretty common that drivers will come on with some problem or situation or whatever to get advice regarding what to do, receive about every different kind of answer you can imagine and then we never find out what happened.
