Why eat at the truck stops in Barstow when Del Taco, Fatburger, and Panda Express are yards apart?

I have noticed an uptick in homeless/transients at truck stops all over in the last couple of months.

I was at the Pilot in Butte, MT last week picking up an abandoned load and had a pair of them approach me while I was inspecting the trailer.

Both of them smelled like rotted garbage and dog ####. I mean, literally, I wanted to puke and I thought I had a strong stomach. For crying out loud, I was a cop for almost 30 years and have dealt with dead bodies that didn't smell as bad as this pair.

What is even more sad is the smell of some other drivers. I actually had to leave an Iron Skillet one day because the driver that came and sat at the next table stunk so bad I couldn't finish my breakfast.

I have an iron clad, no excuses, no room for wiggle rule that I will NOT go more than 24 hours without a shower even if I have to pay cash for it. Hygiene is critical to health, and being on the road is no excuse for being funky.

This is one of the best Del Tacos, the family are here alot, so the food is the best, the quantities are good, and parking normally better than the T/S.

And Fatburger offers a 10% discount for CDL drivers.

  10. that's why I always stayed out there at Ludlow.. didn't have to worry about that then rode on in and right on through.. or if coming out of Vegas I'd stay at whiskey Pete's then rode on in and right on through never liked Barstow never probably will. and yes that was even back when they had the old Burns Brothers where the TA is and the car stuff rip off Griffin's which is another ta now.
or I'd stay out there at tehachapi or Kramer Junction then rode on in and right on through. no I was not a fan of the sleeper creepers that Riff Raff of Bruce's out of Bakersfield on weedpatch either so I didn't stay in that area just like Barstow I avoid the Riff Raff..
but I'll tell you something gang if you been out here long enough for that really miss they went under a few years back for the old giant truckstop out there Mojave out in the middle of the desert wind blowing a thousand miles an hour sand in your face but what's a good place to stay the one down on top of the grapevine to cast ax that wasn't the greatest place in the world but I could tell you right now I really did enjoy the old giant I still have the hats..look like Jimmy Buffett Margaritaville looking things with giant truck stop on the front patch.
you have many of these places it seems cops take them out to the truck stop and drop them off. see it quite a bit and a lot of truckstop don't enforce it even though when you look as a truck stop manager or as a facility employee.
she and the pilot handbook they do not allow loitering or hitchhiking or anything whatsoever but yet the enforcement the last five years has become very lacks any truck stops turned into homeless shelters unfortunately..although it's kind of scary sometimes I get some of these truck drivers confused with homeless bums.
seeing a pig a couple of weeks ago get out of a prime truck filthiest could be. walked in somebody's like to driver watch you buy a new shirt he's like well I pull a flatbed as if trying to defend his reason or try to explain his piggish ways.
Someone said wow!! do they haul vats of ketchup on a flatbed and mustard too..we know you work for prime and we know that Reckett/Benkisler now bought out two years ago by McCormick spices is right up sits right off i-44..the road and that's the home of French's mustard, Frank's red-hot and more?? LMAO
and yes kids you could clearly look at the shirt and see good old-fashioned 3 for $2.22 hot dog stains on the shirt.
there's a difference between new and old dirt and that was just plain filth. Yuck

I used to rationalize that if the truckstops were empty all day and herds of trucks profanity trying to be first into DC by sunrise etc from Tenn... drivers did not have the time to clean up.

Now we see this ELD, and trucksops are one huge Musical Chairs game versus the cuckoo cluck built into the truck.

Now that everyone is full into the truckstops no one is doing laundry etc.

I don't know how this can be changed. I think of the Dutch Boy Fable where he stuck a finger into the leaking dam during a raging rain to save his village. The dirty truckers will have to be viewed as a biohazard, infectious source.
