Resist the urge to bump the pump timing a half a hole like you hear people talk. It will run like a raped ape, but no more than a year before you’ll be pulling pistons out in pieces.

    +1 on this.

A few years ago, I tapped a UPS package car. This happened on private property so didn't involve police, but speaks to why we take pictures and write a report. He zipped around behind me in a loading zone, on the blind side, while I was backing to a door with the 4 ways on. The damage was one golf ball size ding where one of my door hinges connected with the upper rub rail on the side of brown. I took a bunch of photos, drew a diagram, and included all that in a written report. The UPS driver's supervisor came out, looked it over, and declared no harm done - that's what rub rails are for. Didn't hear any more.

Then a few months later I get a phone call from the insurance company that handles UPS claims, asking if I want to pay their $1,700 body work claim with a check or use a card over the phone. LOL. I said send me your report and pictures first.

She did so. The same package car (probably same driver) had got up on a curb or post and tore up the side of the van body pretty good. I replied with my own report, which included pictures of the matching number package car with no damage in that spot after I bumped it. I never heard another word from them about it. The (probably former) UPS driver had messed up a 2nd time and tried to pin me with the damage.
