Don´t get me wrong, you are right. As i said, out of the box: Just plug it in and have a good time, even on FM. Sometimes the deviation is set a little low, but that is no real problem. It should not exeed 2,3 to 2,4 kHz under working conditions to avoid splatter.

Yeah, let me change my bad technical attempt to use terms most AM users are familiar with to discribe the bleeding into neighbour channels due to exceed deviation. (Outside the 10 KHz channel bandwith). Is that ok for you?

 

To suggest you would have to pay someone big bucks to modify your radio to make it capable of talking skip is completely delusional. You're misrepresenting anything I've said because I would never say it's necessary to do such. Quite the opposite actually.
People talk skip with $80 Cobra 29's all the time. It's not exactly Hi-Fi though.
