I turn the engine off and on as I please when I am in sleeper all the time, comfort depending. Also, I move a truck to a different spot when needed while on break.
I can see a stupid cop telling me that I interrupted my sleeper berth by doing so. Thanks for heads up, Garmin is a no go for me.

During inspection officer can see when you powered up or powered down the eld, when you started and stopped the engine, all edits with annotations. the odometer readings and engine hours are non editable. You can add manual driving but you can't add the driven distance. You can change the location name but it will be seen in logs.

Did you ditch KT? I think it is not that bad. You can still post edit odometer readings and locations there. I am truly annoyed by the way the mark the locations as "13.7 miles SW of Des Plaines, IL" while I know for sure that I am in Wood Dale, IL The only thing is that they mark you coordinates every darn minute and when you move the truck from one spot to another, it can be seen. This can only be seen from the Administrator though, it does not go to DOT Inspection report. On the other hand, this could be good when claiming detention or proving that you arrived to a place at a certain time, in theory though.

I have KT and I use it in aobrd mode. the only thing I don't like is being tracked. Your coordinates are on KT website. They say only administrator can see it but who knows one beautiful day they may share it with dot. I bought this Garmin because did not wanted to be tracked but Garmin is a dangerous device.

I was thinking the same. Nothing works better than pen and paper.

Then it isn't a compliant ELD.

    §395.26(h)

Good luck with that KT eld when you are put OOS for a non-compliant device.

I looked at it, too, before the Garmin was even announced. Would've run me about $800 to get everything I needed, and you'd better keep a few rolls of the paper on hand because I've heard 2 inspections uses up the roll. That and the back office software requires keeping the data on their servers, NOT your own device.

With the Garmin, my data is my own to control. NOBODY has access to it until I choose to release it. It was also less than 1/3 of the cost, with zero ongoing expenses.
