And they aren't inherently dangerous. Pay attention and do the job right and they are no big deal.

Lots of tire shops will tell you they are illegal now though. lol
A lot of them will not fix one anymore even if they know they are legal.

Snap binders are dangerous, much like any number of tools or toys.

    HILARIOUS.

Let’s put the deadly serial killing snap binder into perspective. we seat ourselves between 160,000 lbs and tailgate at 70 mph in the rain with a load of pipe that isn’t gut wrapped .....and the snap binder is scary.

Tire techs are just like tmc and melton drivers. Their trainer or safety guy told them something and they spend the next 25 years repeating it as gospel without ever checking the reg or law themselves.

The DOT is good for either a fine and ticket or a eyeballing of the weight and then a citation or a inspection. Anything else that comes out of their mouth is not always lawful. That means they are trying to be funny with you.

Ive always preferred the binders and strap rather than the chain and well.. binders made for them. It's a good thing steel was stronger than any number of cranking down on chain with a breaker bar. I usually put strap and binders on as well. A bit overkill and not necessary. But rather have it on and not shift rather than risk it shifting because it's not secure enough.

I grew up doing tire work, and for years thought caps were illegal on steers. I do not know if somebody told me that at some point, or I just assumed, but was surprised to find out years later they weren't.
