    I don't think that's the same thing.

If I understand what you're saying, you're saying that people who work for this company were required to travel during the course of doing business and they were reimbursed for their travel expenses.

In that scenario that makes sense because they can't just give everybody a credit card and tell them to go crazy. They filled out an expense report and the accounting department could take a look at it and see if they stayed at Motel 6 or if they stayed at the Four Seasons or if they flew Southwest or if they flew the Concorde. That only makes sense. And they were reimbursed for it so it really didn't cost them anything.

But here we're talking about someone trying to get a job and in order to get that job they have to lay money out before they can go to work and before they have an opportunity to see how good or bad that company is.

Round my way when you apply for a town, county or state job, there’s an application fee.

While I haven’t made anyone pay first for reimbursable after passing- if someone thinks that’s too much to invest in a new career...
I used to pay for my own medical cards, and showed up with my own driver abstract when I was an employee, (they’d schedule and prepay for drug tests) and while that wasn’t required of me to incur expense before obtaining employment, employers and potential employers recognized I am a go getter and looking to make things happen. The people that hired me always paid me back for the costs-

Never ceases to appear that employees have all the answers when it comes to what a company should be doing.

Asking someone to front their own drug test is a sure sign of how much money that company really has. Best to just move on before your paycheck bounces.

I've worked in several different industries in my life. It never ceases to amaze me how poorly the trucking industry treats employees.
No other industry would allow half the stuff we talk about here to be accepted.
Not just out of pocket expenses, but all the free time that's expected too.

    Heck, even a
career like my wife being a teacher doesn't have to put up with stuff we do. And hiring a teacher is likely more expensive as not only are there drug test, there is the same basic background screen as hazmat.

And yes, as an employee I have certain expectations. I know the employer has certain expectations too. I'll meet theirs if they meet mine. After all, that's the whole point of working, a mutually beneficial arrangement of labor traded for wages.

In his world the employee pays for the privilege to be considered to work for him, then they might reimburse them for the privilege. Also let's start filling out expense reports for all things trucking because "that's how we did it at the world's largest company I worked at" lol

Same as my wife, nurse has to do back check, drug test, references. All paid by employer.

And we wonder why there is so many steering wheel holders and crap companies.

I pay for drug tests to start work and for the randoms. Physicals I do not pay for it unless you are already working for my company and it’s time to renew.

As many times as I’ve paid a pre employment drug test and gotten screwed, I’d really pull my hair out if I did that plus a new physical.

It’s fine the company paying for things but you can’t let yourself get screwed repeatedly either. The driver has to have some responsibility too and skin in the game so to speak. When people can’t afford to get to an interview not can they afford the physical it’s sortof a red flag to be honest. If they can’t keep their affairs in order it’s hard to think they can keep mine in order out on the road. Especially if they can’t make a simple call to say they won’t be showing up.

Edit: I also pay for the mvr and background check. Oh and also I offer to pay for the finger printing for them to get their haz endorsement. Been screwed on that too unfortunately.

If said people had that much responsibility, skin in the game as some require they wouldn't need to drive your truck because they would have their own to drive.

Let's face it, when you buy a truck for someone else to drive there will be plenty of tire kickers. Some won't show, some won't pass the drug test, some will tear the truck up. The price of being a fleet owner.

If you want something done right, do it yourself. LOL

Sometimes though it comes down to being a man and being responsible. The way I look at it is your CDL is YOUR responsibility. Your health and therefore your physical is also your responsibility. Now, piss tests, backgrounds, mvrs IMO are not. These are things mandated by the government and part of the vetting process by the carrier. Therefore it’s a carrier expense of doing business.

Then, if you have been with the carrier, for me anyway I like to pay for the physical out of an act of appreciation for that drivers service. When asking for the job however, have your crap together I’m not your Mommy.

There is no reason that every decent self respecting, hard working, disciplined man should only be an owner op. There are great careers out here so act like you belong in one and take care of yourself and your company. The company if a good one like mine, will do the same back.

    Exactly.

Someone Not wanting to be reimbursed for the drug test tells me they think they might fail.
