I drove past their original yard in Warren Mi. It’s a Truck Tire and repair shop, it was called Universal now a new name. Lot full of Central pups, and a few Universal 53’. Never a dull moment at Central, no telling what’s next. Apparently a shop for their own eguipment and O/Os maybe. Hiring now signs out front.

####, I know Central isn't exactly the darling of the LTL world, but I wouldn't think they would be this shady to do something like that, hopefully that's not the case, but if it is, that's good info and scratching off the last resort LTL carriers to work for list!Bob Dobalina Thanks this.

That's messed up, you staying in trucking or going back to the railroad? Do what Bob said and contact that IDOL, get your money!Bob Dobalina Thanks this.

Their terminal is next door to Saia's in Phoenix, my first night of training at Saia I noticed a now hiring sign in front of Centrals terminal, it's a year later now, and that sign is still up, I don't think they have ever taken it down.Rideandrepair Thanks this.

Up here, for years Drivers would go work for Central while they were laid off. I only worked there 11 months, after a failed organizing attempt at my Job. They used a bunch of Us, till one day you’re fired, no reason. About 8 mos later they called 3 times. They were hoping I’d play the game for a while then collect unemployment. They will spend whatever it takes to set up a deal, then tighten up and cut everything to maximize profits. Nothing personal, just bussiness.

Sounds like it could be a case of the location too, even with that hiring sign out all the time, they don't seem to be hurting on that Wilcox, Az meet, can't even get a accurate ballpark on how many schedules they run, but there is quite a few of them from what I can tell.Rideandrepair Thanks this.

They're advertising for drivers on Craigslist in my area. 3-6 months experience required for consideration. Might be a good way for a new driver to get some LTL experience before applying to another carrier. I wouldn't want to make a career there though.
Rideandrepair Thanks this. -
They’ve got a lot of freight, be ready to work if you decide to go there. I got along well with Management, but the dock workers were so overworked back then, 100 hrs a week, some slept in their cars on occasion. Had few suicide stories, Guys that wife’s left them and so on.Crazy environment at the time. Probably different now.

Good point, but I wonder how a bunch of equipment violations look when they'd go apply at a better carrier.Rideandrepair and USMC 3531 Thank this.
