The reality is people like you are one of the major things going wrong with this industry. You're not a professional, in fact, by your own admissions, you're the very definition of a wheel holder.

You're also unteachable, which makes you dangerous. You believe that since you're too lazy to do what's right, that everyone else is as well, which makes it okay in your mind.

You're the type that thinks that because nothing bad has happened yet, you must be doing alright. You have to learn the hard way, since decades of experience by millions of drivers before you isn't enough for you.

 

So you didn’t read my reply to your comment. I’m not surprised. Me, a steering wheel holder? Hahaha. You have no idea who I am, driver.

 

I noticed the same thing.

 

I dont care what you are driving... Be it a bicycle or the biggest rig ever made... You look as far ahead of you down the road as you can possibly see. Yes you scan closer, but your focus is WAY, WAY, down the road. Failure to do this I believe is at least partially to blame for many of the rear end collisions we are seeing these days. People are not looking far enough ahead.

 

You think tailgating is harmless to you, tells a lot about how little you know. You don't think a small vehicle can slip into your blind spot when your not paying attention, tells you know even less than a little.

You don't think a tire can go down, or a light can go out, or any number of other things can break while you're driving, which is even more telling.

I don't care who you are. What I do care about is pointing out to others how stupid it is to drive the way you do.

 

First, learn how to adjust your mirrors. If you have blind spots on the lane directly next to you and on each side, there is something wrong with your mirrors. Please don’t tell me your truck is missing the hood mirror. Stevens Transport actually had this small station to ensure all your mirrors are adjusted properly. Then there is the tip to move your head around to get more view out of your mirrors.

Again, it’s complete nonsense and even dangerous to be performing a walk-around inspection while at the wheel. That’s what inspections are for.

Yeah, I must be stupid for not looking at my mirrors every 5-10 seconds while on the freeway. What’s even more stupid is that you yourself probably don’t do it either (and along with all your pals), but as usual, there always has to be a contrarian on these forums. By the way, name-calling isn’t a valid argument. Somebody needs to take Philosophy 101.

 

I just looked them up and compared them to Swift, Schneider, and JB Hunt. Stevens Transport is a much smaller company by fleet size.

They all have the same "national average" numbers. Unless that's a sum total of all the reports you queried for all 4 companies.

 

Look for the Out of Service % row. The National Average % is the results for all companies mixed, I think. They probably get the national % from big companies as smaller companies fall under a different rating.

 

Started driving in the 50's. One of the first advisories I recall being given was "Always be looking for a soft place to land",.That truth was you kept constant awareness for any occurence needing a "landing zone".
It is not checking certain mirrors every so many seconds and for a set amount of time, it is just being aware of what is happening in the world around you.
