Brake and his trailer tail sided as I pulled to the side to give him room and the trucker behind him did the same. Seeing a trailer on it sided is frightening enough but they got it under control And no acident occurred. Am so grateful that I had experience truckers behind me. I wish I got the company name to say thank you to both of you. ( Trucks where red same company and I was in a red car). I let you in back in after are 20 minute drive all because of the lane going in to one lane. We waved to each other to say thanks. David Harris

And you know the driver, both of them was not paying attention how?
I suspect the OP has more of an idea of what happened than what we can determine from a post on the internet.
I am neither of the drivers, but thank you for speaking up for them with a thanks.

Well they amazely pulled there trucks back up. So yes thanking them. Who today focus real attention on the road ? Not many . Both truckers also after the fact went side by side to slow traffic as I was in front. I would think the trucker in front was not focus on what was coming as he did the complete stop and I always driver four cars behind. Either way they got the trailers back in place and am happy for that.

Following too close and not paying attention..

Never have I had to put my truck into a skid while I was paying attention.

    Be thankful you’re alive today.

    FlaSwampRat and spyder7723 Thank this.

I don't think this rings any good.

You do not stop short in front of a 18 wheeler for ANY reason. YOU will probably be killed or maimed or others in the vehicle with you faces the same. YOU CANNOT count on the driver being able to hold on to his or her 18 wheeled *&^% long enough to get away from your short stopping problem.

Don't thank the trucker. Don't ever stop short again in front of a 18 wheeler if at all possible.

Im done with this particular part of lessons.

    Now.

You cannot rely on truckers to fix your problems. They might just slam into you and there you are burning to death.

I interpreted it as traffic came to a stop.

Ok. that is another problem entirely.

If it was me in that pack of stopped cars I pray the truckers can stop too. Otherwise they take out 10, 20 or whatever number of cars.

    Concorde Thanks this.

You can not automatically assume that a trucker was not paying attention or following to close. I am glad you hav e never had an emergency stop, if you are an actual driver you will eventually have that chance.
I crested black mountain just at the perfect time for the sun to blind you. The last thing I saw was brake lights. I thought there was an accident and shut her down hard, not ruining tire hard but as hard as I could without it, and had to back up to get around the truck in front of me, I was that close. I did this as quick as I could and hit the median, as common sense told me that the next truck had even less room to try and stop, so I would likely get tagged. Now there was 3 trucks there, dead stopped blocking both lanes and the shoulder of the interstate, because the freaking sun was in their eyes.
I have several times over the years rounded a curve and had to make quick stops, even came in contact a couple of years ago with a pickup I met in a switch back, even the pickup did not have time to stop.

    x1Heavy Thanks this.

Ive forced a 18 wheeler to do a number of maneuvers, sometimes at the cost of tire damage or OSD damage in freight. I do not take them lightly.

I told this story many times here, essentially construction in Akron OH, 8 foot walls on both sides. Stranded Jimmy SUV (We just called those Jimmys, SUV was not a term used in marketing yet in the mid 90's)

Here I am at 70 Impact in less than 7 seconds. That will kill the three kids with their noses pressed on the back glass and the two parents in the front.

4 cars next to me on left matched my speed. I slammed full service brake pedal to the floor and waited until the speedometer reported less than 31. Then horsed her into the left lane. Local Cop behind me was standing on his nose the whole time.

    (*If I stop. Can you?)

I missed that jimmy. Where it matters anyway. Trailer slams wall on left and tries to climb it alittle. I wrestle her down.

There is nothing like that feeling the last thing you will ever do prior to killing 5 people with a loaded 18 wheeler is to sit there and let the last of the oppertunity to do something run through the fingers. It's a sickening moment. But they were not hit that I know of and we took care of the tires.

I cannot celebrate enough that Bendix system. She executed my input really well. And it was really important for it to do it that well.

There will be more cars I almost hit sometimes alone on purpose when they stop in front of me (Insurance scam) or a variety of scenarios play out where I need to get away from them cars or I will hit them and kill or injure them badly (Plural)

If you want to know what a loaded 18 wheeler at speed can do to a herd of cars sitting still, refer to the Dauphin County Video issued recently where 10 cars were piled up, three dead on I-83 in PA. You just pile up the cars, push the whole heap down the road. Drunken.
