you see that's the thing, a "shortage" from an employer or 2, then add up the companies that claim they are short drivers. for that matter, there is a shortage of plumbers, electricians, carpenters, mechanics, and shoe salesmen, since Al Bundy left.

but the nonesense of a HUGE driver shortage is just BS malarky to "get'em" in the revolving doors.

is there any less a shortage when some of those new drivers get fired....???

    nope, rope'em up, git'em in........

I have kept my license current for Indiana while I have lived in Korea, Also bought a house 2 years ago and have that address on my license. I also have my Aircraft mechanic and pilot license with my Indiana address so I don't think I need to worry. Sounds like you had a pretty good job !

Hi. Dennisroc. I wondered what happened to you. This is kind of funny. I remember you from several years ago when I also was initially looking at becoming a truck driver. I also ended up waiting, stopped looking at this forum and I just got back into the idea recently. BTW, I kinda retired in April 2018, moved from Arizona to Florida and had numerous things go sideways on me. Not necessarily bad (one sad development is that a much beloved pet passed), just not what "I" had planned. Anyway, in the aftermath I had the epiphany that not only was everything in place where becoming a truck driver was actually possible, I also realized that if I was ever going to do it, now is when I'd have to. If I let this opportunity pass me by, I doubt I'll get another, so basically it's now or never. I'm 59 and have about 8 years before full retirement. Currently, I get 'partial' retirement, a small annuity that covers medical, dental, vision and life insurance and a few coins to boot. But, not enough to be lazy and not work. Unsure at this point if I'd want to not work anyway (unless I won the lotter and could retire in style!). I don't feel like I'm ready to not be employed and contribute.
Anyway, I thought it kinda funny to see you pop up. Oh yea, Piper Cub is my very favorite airplane and I've been a huge fan of general aviation for many years, I think that's one of the reason I do remember you.

Good Luck to you (and us!)

Hey Whats up Six ? I will be 66 in dec so I will be full retirement age and have a couple other retirement funds I started getting at 65 plus medicare. Sorry to hear about the pet passing away, that has got to be rough. We have rescued 2 dogs here in Korea and they are just like family. My wife and the dogs are flying back to Indiana end of October $4000 plus just for the dogs, OUCH But they are worth it.

I have bought a house on a grass airstrip and built a hangar and thought maybe I will just work on airplanes a little but wanting to do something different. And just fly my Cub :)
    Are you driving now ?

Victor from Sodrel Trucking just called me and said they have a school at their location, SDIA. $5000 for 5 weeks then work for them for $22.50-$27.50
Their trucks are 5 and 6 speeds
I see they have Macks in their ad but not sure if that is all they have.
Something to think about when I get home I guess.
I think they will take the $5K out of your pay check but I don't think they pay for your schooling.
But home every night, 1 hour to get there , drive 10 hours and 1 hour to get home HMMMMM????

ok, so at least you don't have much to worry about getting the CDL permit. i just did not know that you kept up with yours over the years.

regarding my retired job, yes it was sweet, after all the years of doing long haul, north east regional, atlantic coast regional, local, over nighters, and others, that i went into the dedicated acounts companies. i did not have to chase after any money, all monies were salary based on the routes i'd have, and i loved it.

no bickering with the companies about who's getting more miles than me, or the better loads or time off.
