I am a female driver, currently about sixty hours into my 300 for training...and they have sprung a new rule on Werner student drivers. If you are riding with a trainer that is a dedicated driver, often home on the weekends, be prepared to sleep at truckstops in the truck, because they will not foot the bill for motels in those circumstances.

What I have been told, is a one night stay is in the truck - more than one night and they will foot the bill for the second night only.
How this is supposed to work when your trainer has already left you in the truck I don't know. Can they pre- arrange the stay? Or do they have to come back and get you and bring you to the motel? Only the trainer has the card and approval to get you a room....so far this is not very clear.

Since I will be taking a break at the halfway point I will request an OTR trainer next time, because as a female driver, I don't feel safe alone in a truck stop...maybe Werner hasn't considered this a concern, or maybe they don't CARE?

Why would they cover a hotel at all? Once you are done with training you will be sleeping alone in your truck every day.

If the hotel is right next to the truck stop it wouldn't be a problem. Your trainer can pay by phone just like you would with a credit card. Also you really shouldn't be that worried about your safety. Just make sure you are at a major truck stop (aka TA, petro etc) and park close to the building and you should be more than fine.

This rule is kind poorly thought out tho. For example how is the trainer going to get home if he has to leave his truck at a truck stop.... or in my situation if i became a trainer there isnt really a truck stop close by I could park my truck at. The only t/s close to my house is a road ranger that has maybe 20 parking spaces......... and they will run you off if you try to park there to long.

When I trained with PAM, my trainer went home every weekend and I had to stay in the truck. I spent 1 night in there, got bored. I went next door to the motel and got a room. I payed for it however. It's different staying in someone else's truck but tough it out, it's only a couple of weeks.

I could be wrong Bunny, but I was thinking that if your concern was safety being alone in a truck and worrying about motels, you're getting into the wrong business, or you're just not prepared for this.
...I could be wrong, not throwing stones...

Especially with the state of truck driving right now. You better get used to spending a couple days in a truck. It does suck that you're stuck in someone else's truck. I feel if your going to be going OTR after training you should train with an OTR trainer. As far as safety? If you don't feel safe alone in a truck stop then truck driving definitely is not for you. I can't feel sympathetic to that at all.

The untold part of the equation is that she'll be teaming with her husband, who's also at the halfway point of training, when her training is complete. So, she'll not likely be staying in the TS by herself.
