If you're talking used trucks I have never heard anything negative from anybody that bought a truck from Ryder . With dealers it's buyer beware . Dealers have a lot of repo's and when owners are losing money and know they are losing the truck they don't maintain it properly .

You can also buy fleet trucks from some dealers. Keep in mind fleet trucks are run by drivers, who usually don't care if they tear up the truck. There usually well maintained though.

and most fleets have miserable maintenance scheduals. I've worked for places that changed oil every 35k miles wether it needed it or not :biggrin_2554: and they weren't getting greased between oil changes either.

the question shouldn't be fleet or dealer. it should be buying a fleet truck or owner operator truck

I drive for Prime... they have us do a pretty good job at maintaining PMs and lube jobs, but it depends on whether the driver is motivated to do it. Also they are good about getting us into a shop for any problems that develop, and don't go cheap on repairs. What was said about drivers is true... alot of newbs, not necessarily good drivers. Go low mileage on a fleet truck.

You might want to have an oil sample pulled and analyzed by a lab that specializes in dealing with diesel oil samples - make sure they can explain the results to you. It might help you avoid a good looking junker.

Not much . I've read about the condition some were in when some members posted the truck they were waiting for was now available because someone abandoned it .
