Had a 60 series using 1 gal every 5000 miles, changed to Mobil Delvac went to using 1 gal a day, went back to Delo 400. When i had may cat overhauled they put Mobil Delvac in it, never uses full gal between changes. (10,000 miles) makes you wonder

Years ago, my father had a 3406B in a Pete he bought nearly new. Previous owner had used Rotella, so Pop continued with the same. Whenever the truck accumulated around 700K mi., as oil pressure dropped, and consumption increased, he spoke to a trusted wrench about doing either a bottom end, or an in-frame. Mechanic recommended switchng to Delvac. After the switch, oil pressure came up a little, but the surprise was that oil consumption dropped to where it was when he had purchased the truck.

I used to always run Rotella in my trucks, (pickups included). By the way, I am a former Conoco employee, that's how much I liked the Shell oil. I began going to my fathers shop for my oil changes, after he had switched to Delvac, and the oil was free, sooooo.....

In 2004, when local Cat dealer inframed my truck, I asked about the "Cat oil", I was told by an employee there that it was re badged Rotella. I was also told that they give the oil contract to whomever gives the best price; apparently that is true.

How much are you putting in it? My BXS started using oil last fall, so i took to local cat shop and the said they cut my dipstick down because it was to long and that i was over filling it for the last 650,000 miles! Seems weird but it dont use oil any more so I wont complain!

Let's see, shorter DIPstick would be more oil not less.

    Just think about it . . . . . . . . . . . . . .
