    Hey guys...

I drive around town more than on the interstate so i pick up a good bit of interference from random gas stations and lights and stuff...

my rf gain is turned all the way up so i can pick up weaker signals a little better and my squelch is just turned off as soon as the static stops..

any suggestions on changing my settings for less interference?

or anything i should look into buying?

Is your ANL on? Otherwise, not much else you can do as far as I know.

Automatic noise limiter? My Uniden has a choice of regular squelch or automatic. Plus, it has 3 levels of filters; I just add filtration by noise level. ("noise cancelling")
OTOH, it's just leaky wires and flourescent bulbs that are your problem, and if you think about it, it's just as you pass by, except for some power lines that leak for a whole block.
Tater might shed more light on this.

    Bet he runs a fiberglass antenna . . . .
    They are static magnets.

no, i don't have a fiberglass antenna. its actually pretty much what red fox said. we have a zaxbys across the street from a small shopping center and I always get some interference there. its mainly just when i am on the main road of our town. I don't really get any on back roads and never any on the interstate.

I get alot less noise from Fiberglass antennas then I do whips. Just went back to Wilson Fiberglass because of static noise.

I have a cut-down 102" whip stinger in a homemade coil (2/0 solid core wire!) on my pickup, and a Wilson 2000, neither of which get a lot of static. I'm thinking maybe it's something else that brings it in. A firestick I tried was quiet too, but I didnt' like the range.

well, for the most part, i don't get a lot of static. On the interstate, its quiet as a mouse unless somebody is talking. the only time i get static is when i am on the main road of town and i think it is things like flourescent lights ig uess...
