Where is everyone #5

I have a question...do you not speak to your father because you don't like him or do you not speak to him because you have nothing to talk about? The reason why I ask is because I don't hate my father. I like who I am and if he would have stayed, there's no way that I would be me.

Could I have possibly been better off? No. My dad wasn't one of those dads like @Oxbow that does cool things and knows alot. He was a city kid from the northeast. City kids always seem to have it in their head to get a job and and work for someone else and on the weekends, go hang with your buddies just like you. So, he had a bunch of loser friends. Birds of a feather...?

In a nutshell, I don't speak to my father because we have absolutely nothing to talk about.

 

My instincts tell me that he killed the dog to cause pain.

 

I've been extremely challenged in my own life to come to grips with and " make sense " of the madness of the World. It's not just you. I'm just trying to encourage you to keep going and if I could finally find a comfort zone in my understanding of Why things are like they are, then I know it's possible for others to reach a place like this too.

For me it was really difficult because of the polar opposites of my parents. Complicated further by my being almost exactly half of each one.
The very easiest things that most people automatically "get" without a second thought have been the very hardest things for me to resolve in my own mind.
I'm really old to finally figured out some of these basic things. Fortunately I have gone past the point of where I would have tortured myself for being such a fool.
Time, like many other things, can be an enormous help to us in some regards. Even when we can't see it.

Hang in gentlemen, especially when it seems the darkest.

While I appreciate the compliment, I bet @Lilbow could share some alternative thoughts regarding working for his Dad. And, fortunately, he takes up a lot of slack. Honestly, I am extremely impressed with folks that are sharp as a tack into their 70s, 80s, and 90s. I feel things slipping away ever so slightly in my 60s. At this point I rely on instinct as much as acumen.

I really like your point regarding who you have become. There may be a lot of experiences that you missed out on with your father, but you have so many other experiences that have made you who you are, and if you are happy with your current life situation then a fella can't ask for more than that.

Sounds kinda like a guy I work with. I've told him, in front of our supervisor, "I'm sure you know this already but if you worked anywhere else but here somebody would have beat the h e l l out of you a long time ago".

Guys like that are the worst DB's, King DB's because they know they are protected which in turn makes me want to kick their a s s even more, lol.
