My birth mom died when she was 37. I was 6 and my sister was 4. The lady who I call Mom today was his second wife. They split after two years but I remained close to her. His third (current) wife asked him to move us out of the house when I was 12. We lived with my aunt who became increasingly more alcoholic and drug dependent as time went on. At 14 I took a job to pay the electric bill. When they came to shut the water off he told me he couldn't free up the money without his wife finding out. So I just kept covering things as long as I could so my sister didn't have to find out. Eventually they foreclosed on the house and we had to go.
We didn't talk much after that discussion about paying the utility bills. I called him out for his cowardly ways when I was 24. He deflected by telling me that he didn't think my wife was a very good mother to our kids. He never answered the question and that was the last time we spoke. I'll be 41 this year so it's been 17 years.
I'd hear him out if he wanted to talk. I don't hate him. That gives too much control of me away so I try not to do it. But I do feel sorry for him.
He showed up at Uncle Joe's funeral...sort of. He walked through the graves about 50 feet from where we were all gathered and would not talk to anyone. Then he left before the service began.
He quit calling my sister for the most part when he retired from the railroad. Being at work was the only time he could call without the wife finding out. Overall I'd have to say mancard revoked. I'm just thankful I had Uncle Joe to look up to. Every guy should have a Man to learn the important things in life from. But I guess I'd be wrong if I said I didn't learn things from dad...I just had to think about how his behavior impacted things....lessons I didn't see til much later on.
Anyway....I didn't keep that as short as I meant to....sorry guys.beastr123, Westbound23, cke and 23 others Thank this. -

@Ruthless man I hate to hear that. A fella can sure get attached. There’s a reason they are “man’s best friend .”
