Well said Chief !
With the exception of the"right to a job" I feel everyone born in the US has the equal rights to a fair job at a fair wage. There is no justifiable place for Unions in the USA.(if anyone supports such socialistic beliefs keep'em to your self)
Other wise Chief is spot on with the assement of people thinking they are owed something for holding a CDL.
This Industry OWES YOU NOTHING,you get what you get by EARNING IT !
That fastest way to progress in this business is to purge that Driving School Teaching free from your being.
I have retrained over 40 Students in my days and the first thing that was purged were those freakin briefcases. Second was any reference to What or How I learned it in School comments.
Want it ? Earn it !

I went through TMC's oreintation a couple of months ago and didn't see any problem with it. We had something like 45 starting out and about 25 of us made it through. A few got cut because they just flat out could not drive. I'm talking not being able to shift gears, make turns or back. We were told, and from what I understand they tell everyone, that we were not officially hired until we made it through oreintation. Yes we got a check while in DesMoines but we were not officailly employed by TMC. Not until we actually went out with a trainer were we considered employed by TMC. TMC has the rep for being one of the strictes companies out there and people should be prepared to bust their butts when going to their oreintation and know if they can't measure up to TMC's high standards then they will be going home. I would rather see all trucking companies do this and maybe ome of the dangerous drivers would not be on the road. Having a good job with great benifits is a privilage not a right, and you have to work hard to earn it. I wish anyone luch who oes to TMC but be prepared o give it 100% or risk the chance of going home. Let me give an example. We had a test on load securement and the night before instead of studying like they should have been some of the class decided to party and watch the big game. It wasn't long after that a few of those same people went home.
The grass rule is just another test. TMC tells you not to walk on the grass. It's not hard to stay off the grass and they just want to see if you can floow a simple rule. After all if you can't follow something ### simple as not walking on the grass how can they trust you when your out on your own with their truck and an expensive load? I never saw anyone get sent home over walking on the grass but I did hear of someone getting called in for it though, just a butt chewing from what I heard.SCNewbie Thanks this. -

I drove by thier training facility today in Des Moines. They always seem to have a batch of recruits working in the lot and driving around town every day. What I have noticed is that there are more and more trailers stacked up not going anywhere. They do repair as this place as well but looks like a lot of trailers going no where.

Or at least they should by law be required to pay you for your time. They would have paid for orentation if you passed, so if they have the info before they invite you, they should have to pay you for the time reguardless.
As for testing, I never made less than a 92% on any test for driving a truck, and the 92 was on hazmat. All others were 100%. No real reason for less than that. The info is all in the book, you are required to understand english to be a CDL holder in this country. Read the darn book and you will pass.
If there tests are open book, even if they are timed, no excuse for getting a question wrong.
I had not looked at a CDL book since 1991 (when I got my CDL), and a year ago I was bored at a computer in the terminal. I did every test on it, and passed every one with a 95% or higher, this included defencive driving, trainer tests, ect.
Why did I pass? Becuase the tests are common since. If you have no common since, you should not be driving a car, much less a truck. It would make it safer for all of us out here.
As for TMC being a good or bad company, I will reserve my decision on that. I have seen and met some good drivers with this company, and talked to several. There are also 3 ex-TMC drivers at my company. One was with them for 7 years. He says they are ok, but likes a smaller company better.
It is all in the fit.
With the idle thing. Many large carriers like TMC are doing that. Though TMC would save more money makeing the mandatory washes every 2 weeks than charging there drivers for idle. I doubt they will last the year anyway. So it will not matter. I see more and more of there trucks deadhead every day, and flat rates are down.Click to expand... -

Tarpin more crap. Too much Chrome. Two men Cuddling. Take my Cash.
... The list goes on. -
they have to....
TMC is a Flat-bed company, they need to ensure many things...
1. Driver is not a want-a-bee comp case.
2. Driver is fit enough to perform the job, not just fit enough to do the pre-employment tests.
3. Driver is not a slacker.
4. Driver is neat and presentable every morning, fresh shaved, and showered.
There are many other things a perspective employer can do to try to ensure a good employee.
I worked for Central, and out of 15 that graduated the school, only me made it to a year.
