My boss had me download it in my phone instead of giving us computer system log, the question is, would DOT be ok with it?

I believe it's legal. It has to ELD app and connect to you truck. Not an old app you can change driving time manually. I believe you need to have it mounted to the dash. A cell phone holder hooked to dash so you can see it when driving.

My company got some cheap Samsung Galaxy 10 tablets. And mounts for them. They run the ELD app on that vs driving using their cell phones. My understanding if you give them your cellphone to look at your logs. They can look at anything on your cellphone if they really want to. Because you gave it to them. That's the only downside of using your phone, plus the wear of running you cell phone all day. The batteries don't last forever

They did an update a while back that locks out the phone so DOT can't access anything in the phone. Only can see 8 days log

You need the Dashlink hardware to make it an ELD. In inspection mode, it locks out the rest of phone. Make sure you have the current instructions in the truck and have it mounted in view when driving.

I don't know how you all use electronics mounted in the windshield. The sun beating down on them making them hot destroys them.

My tablet is mounted to the dash with a vent behind it. Stays cooler than I do.

Other already said it but the sun and summer heat can be trouble on cell phone. I had cell phone get to hot and it shut down. Those Qualcomm ELDs have special screens that can work in like 150F. So the summer heat when parked would not hurt them
