Yes......!!!!! It’s how I obtained the truck that meant the most now.

I have 4 sisters and 3 brothers but grew up a single child. Odd situation I guess, uncle Lester was a self employed water well driller and aunt Winnie cleaned homes for a living. I was taught their ways at everything, including tending to the cattle. Both were born in 1918 and neither had more than a 4th grade education. But good hard working people, that grew up through the depression.

That 59 100 was my very first vehicle, 1/2 ton short bed step side with 3 in the tree and 6 in a row to make it go. Uncle Lester ask me one day if I’d like to own it, Yes of course, I was always a truck guy!!

So he told me.... this is the deal, since you are walking these hills anyways driving cattle up from Grays branch, for the next 2 years I want you to carry a hoe with you. You cut down every multiflora rose bush you see while your driving the cows up. AND.... keep those caterpillars burnt out of all our fruit trees on the farm as well for the next 2 years.

And that was how I payed for my first vehicle, my wife thinks I’m a little to rough around the edges at times, I think today’s society is to dam soft and more candy ankles are showing up every day!

    Sorry so long winded.

That's a better way to come about it than the 5 year plan most get!
How do you burn caterpillars out without burning the tree down?

I couldn’t agree with you more about today’s society. Interesting story. My Dad grew up in the depression and could squeeze a quarter out of a penny. That generation was tougher than steel. Great read
