Wishes I knew of this right when CR England required me to drive in the snowstorm
You do have the right NOT to drive in harsh weather!

It is much too rare that we see some sense of fairness transpire in driver verse management conflicts of this nature. Glad to see drivers who get screwed end up with a favorable outcome. Wish this kind of outcome was much more common than it is!

No load is worth your safety. Not risking my life or my career over any load. I’ve only shut it down 3 times because of weather in my career and each time was the right decision, conditions were hopeless.
When you’re out there driving, no dick in the office can control you. You could drop their load at the bottom of the river if you saw fit and nobody could stop you.Long FLD, Trucker61016, deathB4decaf and 6 others Thank this. -
Good on the driver for shutting down !! More importsntly good on the driver for having the balls to stand up to these stupid office pukes who think they know how to drive and these corporete morons who care nothing other than their bottom line!!

Canada would have to shut down between November and March if drivers refused to drive in "bad weather".

This actually goes back to that old power struggle between safety and operations. As a driver, you MUST do your best to not get caught up in this. Once you make that safety decision to shut down call safety if you have to. Also, don't fall for that line some operations types will pull, (well we got other trucks that are running why can't you) again, call safety. BTW, this applies to defective equipment as well.

We go out in some pretty bad weather but if a driver decides it's dangerous and parks the truck we'll very seldom second guess him. Most of our drivers are old timers and they've been through enough bad winter weather to make good judgement calls.
For example...we'll chain for snow all the time but if there are white-out conditions we'll park. Glare ice, unsanded, the same. Freezing fog, the kind that glazes your windshield over to where the defrosters and wipers don't do any good is an automatic shutdown.
The one thing we'll definitely shut down for is fog, This corner of the country is famous for multi-car pile ups in foggy weather. It's not a difficult concept...if you can't see, don't drive.
