I am a KAG driver here on SoCal,runnng a dedicated shift for BP,been here for little over two years, like all companies they're not perfect, but it's really a great company to work for.As some of you drivers may know, tankers are not like a regular van, reefer or flat bed,and everyday it's a new challenge. Here on KAG we work for 6 days and rest for 3 days,so,we dont get weekend often but those 3 days are welcome any day of the week!.Right now they are not hiring new drivers, but taking apps, and looking for the ones with tankers and petroleum experience, money is good,is an easy job but,you can create a big problem in a second, money wise and safety for you and for the people around you, driving tankers may not be for all professional drivers,I know I love it!.check here for more info: kagwest for california, good luck to all 18 wheelers outhere! drive safe, your family depends on you

Thanks for the info, can I keep in contact w/u if I have any futher questions that i may have? Can you tell me how the "pay structure" works? Website gives no details.
Thanks -
I'm starting orientation at Transport Service Company tomorrow morning at their Joliet terminal. TSC doesn't haul gas as far as I know but is primarily a HM company. I'll let you guys know how it's going since there's absolutely no threads on this company on here except for their buyout by KAG. I suppose that says something good right from the start!

KAG is pretty big here in the Pittsburgh area. I ahve an app in with them right now. I applied online and then they mailed me a paper app, which I completed and sent back.
Now sure if they have openings, but their saefty/recruiting department has been pretty good with communication so far. I have my heart set on a LTL job, so I am not pestering KAG as much as I am the LTL companies. I've never hauled a tanker before, but recently got all my endorsements because I am sick of being laid off hauling mail. -
I have been with kag for almost four years now with the advantage tank lines subsidiary.
All the companies that are owned by kag are basically just regulated by the corporate office in canton ohio. Each terminal has different pay stuctures and work schedules even within the same subsidiary, the corporate office leaves the running of a terminal up to the term. manager, this includes pay, vacation, work schedules and any type of bonuses. The 401k and the health insurance is the same for all divisions though.
One of the posters said we contract with small companies, well dont believe that crap.
kag has nationwide contracts with over 7,000 7-11 stores,5000 circle-k stores, every TA truckstop in US,allmost every petro, every Ryder systems,UPS and UPS freight, penske, sole carrier for hess,I could go on with all the other stuff we do help the small companies out cause they dont have enough trucks, and the kroger gas account.
As far as sleeper trucks, yes, their are alot and they mostly haul heavy oils, asphalt, chemicals, foodgrade, they have even been around are area alot to help us when our term. bit off to much work.
Now that BP has cut 256 trucks east of the rockies kagmost of the work in my area and this includes hauling just ethanol to the loading racks.
My day is this everyday,I load gas for one our stores take it south, empty, shoot west about 30 miles, load ethanol, take it to BP loading rack in detroit, empty, reload somewhere in detroit, take it close to my term. and empty that then I go home, pretty simple. -
I ran out of room so heres more. In my region kag is my far and away the biggest but probably also the most hated.
we have so much work that there still hiring here. My teminal is pretty laid back, most of our trucks and trailers are only three to four years old with new ones coming in about every six months.
So anyway, the work is steady the paycheck always on time and the equipment is good.
Everything just depends on what term. you work out of.
Boy I cant wait till my kids are older so I'm not a delivery boy anymore like the other guy said. -
I would enjoy learning tanker, depending on what happens with the ltl apps I have in now.
KAG has and is working my app now....Whether or not they have an opening, I don't know. I hear they start at $16/hour, which is ok, but I think ltl pays more to start. Either way, I guess we'll see. I will ask KAG what they start at, since the 16 an hour was as of a few years ago.
